  • In this stage, my group made many observations on the current Apex Harmony Lodge (AHL) as we study the existing site through different areas such as site resilience, solar analysis, airflow analysis and site analysis map. 
  • After that we researched on 5 possible sustainable design strategies with case studies to be implemented in the concept design. 
  • Moreover, we also shared our peer presentation with IAD/DES students to work together on the concept design.

  • In this stage, I worked together with my design partner to come up with a conceptual layout plan and facade design through sketches. 
  • After that, I incorporated the required design strategies based on GM 2021 for existing buildings to develop massing models and space layout design proposals. 
  • In the end, I generate proposed 2D & 3D models with Revit & Sketchup.

  • In this stage, I chose the focus area which is lobby, reception & entrance area at level 1 to generate interior space layout and 3D models. 
  • After that, I applied the design strategies based on GM 2021 for existing buildings to achieve sufficient natural lighting, natural ventilation and shading to the interior. 
  • Next, I did the shadow and wind flow (CFD) simulations on the entire focus area to analyze the results. 
  • Lastly, I combined all together into an A1 panel.

  • In this stage, I made calculations on lighting power budget(LPB), Material LCA and ETTV. 
  • For LPB and ETTV, I drew layout and elevations drawings for each to support the calculations. 
  • For the LCA, I chose the suitable and sustainable material for the focus area and calculate LCA based on requirements of GM 2021 for existing buildings.

    • Pre-Design - I have learned how to analyze the site through different areas and known how to implement different strategies in the concept design. I have also learned how to present the strategies to the peers.
    • Concept Design - I have learned how to how to apply and incorporate the design strategies to the proposed concept model. I have also learned how to collaborate with IAD/DES student to come up with the concept design.
    • Schematic Design - I have learned how to apply and incorporate design strategies to the interior space and also to do simulations on the focus area.
    • Detail Design - I have learned how to make calculations on Lighting Power Budget, Material LCA, and ETTV.
    Furthermore, I have learned how to integrate Green Mark in architectural design for the sustainability of the proposed model.
