A part in chapter 4 that really stood out to me was when the wife of Mr. Giles Hicks murdered a young girl who was just about 15 or 16 years old. The thing about that situation that surprised me the most was the outcome of it. Mrs. Hicks didn't even need to go to court for the awful crime she committed, she just got away with it like that.

It must have been really tough for Fredrick Douglas to have been born as a slave. The majority of the slaves grew up without any knowledge about his or her identity nor his or her family. As I read though the book, I felt how atrocious it was to keep the slaves ignorant for the masters to be able to control the slaves with ease.

Chapters 1-4 were really interesting, but most of the events that took place were very unjust. The masters and overseers from what we read are really unfair to the slaves and whip them most of the time just because they felt like it. One part in chapter 4 that really stood out to me was the situation with Demby and Mr. Gore. Demby was only trying to relive his pain that Mr. Gore was inflicting on him and Mr. Gore shot him for that.

fter reading ghapters 1-4, I really appreciate the way that Frederick Douglass wrote. I love that he didn't leave anything out, and that he didn't try to lessen what may have happened in his life. Something in these chapters that stood out to me is just how crazy it was that people were able to treat others as if they were worth nothing. It seems ridiculous that people were okay with whipping or killing others unjustly just because they felt as if they were higher in life or as if the African Americans were supposed to obey .

After reading Chapters 1-4, i feel that it wasn't a great time to live back then. it was a cruel and unjust world with unfair treatment of people who were seen as property. Frederick Douglass bears witness to how cruel and uncaring these times were, along with how unjust the people were.

The reading of chapters 1-4 opened my eyes to the kind of brutality that Frederick Douglas and many more African Americans had to endure. I didn't know that they didn't know a lot about their identity and I think it's horrible that they didn't even really know themselves. The fact that all their families were separated is really sad because having to go through that abuse and not being able to have your family to lean on is really difficult. I can't imagine how Douglas was able to live through all of this and write about it in a truthful way, instead of in a hateful manner.

After reading the first few chapters, it was abundantly clear that Fredrick Douglass and the other slaves had no easy life. And the actions that Douglass have witnessed are so horrible that I can't even imagine how he felt. But even though he was put through so much pain, he was still able to keep his strong will of character. And I honestly hope that I am in a tough situation, then I will be able to keep a level head.

After read the first four chapters, it make me cognize how tough the slave life is. Based on the views of Douglass, it reflected the real situation that happened in the South. I was feeling pitiful for these slaves because they did not have human rights and live under horrible enviornment everyday. Some slaves were even killed by unjust reason. These facts reveal that the cruel and brutal society in the South and white people dominate supreme state. It also satire racial discrimination and unfair between white and black people in that period.

Reading through chapter 1-4 showed how early slave children are shown and exposed to the brutality of being a slave. These kids which no older than 10 years old are being exposed to horrible beating, death all around them, very little food, being cold most of the time because of being given almost no cloths to wear.He barely knew his own mother and when she died he said that it was as if a stranger had died. its sad to see how brutal the slave life was even for children.
