"Your father agreed to finish the lawn today and you're not even halfway done." he lifted up the lemonade pitcher and added, "Too many breaks I guess" And the train was back on the tracks."
This dialogue between Kent, Olivia, and Quinn shows that when things are not going well for Kent, he acts desperate. Kent wanted to go to the movies with Olivia but Quinn didn't like that and wanted to derail Kent. And whenever things go right for Kent, he gets back on the rails and acts like a jerk again. This shows that Kent only likes it when things go well for him.

Now you can show the team what you've really got... and Olivia too." I snapped back at him. How did he know about Olivia? My blood was racing and I didn't think it was only because off the Ruby. It was like the salts had increased my brain power as well as my physical ability... which was probably why a thought came to me. A horrible thought. "Did Marty take this stuff?" I asked, though I feared the answer." SYLO pg 49
This dialogue between Tucker and Feit shows that Tucker doesn't feel proud of taking the salts. He feels ashamed for using an item to increase his physical and mental ability. He's also not sure why Feit knows so much about him, since for some reason he knows Olivia. Since the salts are basically drugs, Tucker fears the worst. He asks if Marty, the kid who died on the football field took the salts. This conversation creates more details to what exactly happened on the day Marty died, and who exactly Feit is.

In BRAVE NEW WORLD, we get to see the pain the artificial babies go through. They get tortured by electricity and were forced to hate certain things, so they can be useful for the scientists. For example the scientist showed a baby pictures of flowers and electrocuted him and made him terrified of flowers. The scientists even made different subjects hate each other.
