Gaitas are long flutes with male and female styles (Male Gaita's have one hole to keep rhythm and harmony with the Female Gaita which has five holes and is used for the melody). Drums were usually bongos and other similar types. They also used the Guacharaca or guiro which are scraping percussion instruments. Some new added instruments are guitar, accordion, piano, clarinet, and flute. Cumbia is played in 2/4 or 2/2.
