The Proclamation of 1763 was made by King George III who decided the best way to keep the colonists and Native Americans from figuring if the colonists decided to move westward was to draw a line down the middle and yell the colonists to stay east of it and the Native Americans to stay west. The colonists started to see tyranny arise but couldn’t do much about it, besides people had already started to move across the mountains. However, the British ignored American actions and expanded the British army in the colonies to 7,500 men.

The colonists were taxed the least in all of Britain’s kingdom so one man named Grenville decided to finally start taxing them, and to start off with the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was a tax in whisk every piece of paper that was used had to have a purchased stamp. The colonists again sense tyranny. They weren’t upset with paying taxes but rather the fact they had no representation in Parliament and argued because of this. The Stamp Act was also when the patriot group who called themselves “Sons of Liberty” first arose.

This new act taxed the colonists for popular items such as glass, paint, paper, and tea. One Patriot named Samuel Adams was often the leader of these protests against the acts. Women were also very important in the boycott of this tax. They were a able to brew tea from pine cones, see dresses out of home spun cloth, and only buy American goods.

Soon a new leader of British Parliament took over named Lord North. Although he was very relaxed at his job he was good at swing financial gain or loss and saw this Act as a huge loss. In 1770, Lord North was able to persuade Parliament to repeal the taxes on all the products except for tea, Britain’s highest selling supply. This was because King George did not want to give up taxing the colonists.

He has a silversmith named Paul Revere make an engraving of the incident where the soldiers were depicted as shooting at harmless, peaceful colonists. It was spread through the colonies only allowing their hatred of the soldiers to grow. John Adams, Sam Adams cousin, decided to defend the soldiers even though it would cost him dearly because he believed everyone had the right to a fair trial. In the end only two of them were found guilty of manslaughter.

To save the company, the British gave the tea company full control over all legal selling of tea in the colonies, this includes who sold the tea and where.
