This pact, which united the two fascist regimes, was written by the Italian foreign minister Galeazzo Ciano. Following this agreement, all European affairs, according to Mussolini, would revolve around the "Rome-Berlin axis."

November 1937: Anti-Comintern Pact

In November 1936, Nazi Germany and Japan came to an agreement against the Communist International known as the First Anti-Comintern Pact.  It primarily intended to hit the USSR.  Italy finally ratified the agreement in November 1937.

May 1939: Pact of Steel

The Rome-Berlin Axis was formalized and transformed into a military alliance by the Pact of Steel. On May 22, 1939, Hitler and Mussolini both signed it.  Politically and militarily, the two states were joined by the alliance.

Tripartite Pact September 1940

Italy, Nazi Germany, and Japan's military objectives were explicitly incorporated into this alliance.  The Berlin Pact is a defensive military agreement that was struck in Berlin.  Its main objective was to discourage Americans from getting involved in Europe and Asia.
