This song by Buck Owens draws much of its inspiration from southern roots, which are ever present through Owens' tone and accent. Ratliff briefly talks about this and illustrates how these southern roots are able to give Owens the ability to resonate with his song and showcase the concept of closeness.

At first glance, the concept of closeness can be taken for the idea of creating a connection between the artist and the audience, however, the concept itself is much than that. Ratliff's idea closeness is made clear when he speaks about artists like Jimmy Reed and Howlin' Wolf. His concept of closeness refers to how an artist is able to "resonate" as Ratliff puts it, with the music and by doing so creating a feeling atmosphere that brings the music closer to the artist and as result, to the audience as well. This concept more clearly understood when Ratliff talks about Pedro Luis Ferrer's music. Ferrer is a great example of Ratliff's idea of closeness, in Ferrer's music his daughter is a crucial part of what makes his music so close, the fact that he is able to bring together his voice and his daughters' voice as one connected and harmonizing duo perfectly illustrates Ratliff's point. I personally think that the concept of closeness presented by Ratliff is a valid concept that provides a deeper look into the sounds of music while providing a greater understanding of the artist.

One of the most defining traits of the concept of closeness is harmonizing of voices and people. This picture of a church choir perfectly showcases this idea of harmonizing. Many of the songs that church choirs sing are sung as one unifying grand voice that resonates with the music.
Source: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/ponderanew/2014/09/23/

This song by the artist Watsky, is a great example of the concept of closeness. In this song the Watsky, opts from the traditional form of singing and instead decides to use poetry and by doing so he is able to fully come together with the music.

In this picture, we see the Beatles recording a song. Ratliff talks about the Beatles and how they were able to use and hone this skill of closeness by using their voices to resonate with their songs. This concept of closeness is best seen in this picture which at its core showcases the main idea of this concept which is the unifying and harmonizing of voices, however more than just voices but feelings and ideas.
Source: https://dbradmusic.com/2012/04/10/my-insane-devotion-to-vocal-harmonies-as-used-by-the-beatles/
