One important key point from the article that I pulled out is that students need to constantly be reflecting on what they are learning in order to be successful with the material. Not only does there need to be opportunities for this in class, but students also need to practice metacognition as a skill independently.

I feel that some of the questions from the application table are very helpful and I can see myself using a form of exposure, class, review, and question "learning style." However, I felt that all of the questions for the planning, monitoring, and evaluating stages of the metacognition process were a bit overwhelming (so many questions)!

I never knew what metacognition was, so this article provided me not only with a definition of what it was but why it's important to students. I also liked how the article gave questions for students to ask themselves to ensure they are engaging in metacognition to enhance their learning. A major key point I pulled from the article was professors being more aware of their teaching styles and the students learning styles. As a result of professors awareness they can tailor their teaching styles to the benefit of the students.

The biggest takeaway of the article for me was my lack of reflection when it comes to my metacognition. Although I realize I am doing something unproductive, I need to hold myself more accountable. I also noticed that the Biology example was similar to how the biology class I took last summer was executed. I was a little confused about ways to 'incentivize' or 'reward' myself for being metacognitive and production.

Also along with the experiences, reflecting what we learned can also develop different ways we learn. Even though students like Josephina and Maya studied different ways for test, their strategies mostly worked for them through experience.
