I am not a quick learner, because I need time to think things through to be able to comprehend material as well as courses.

In our discussion so far; sociology is mostly about the study of human interaction. I can relate to this as I am always thinking when people talk, or do some sort of activity together. From watching my siblings they have shown me that lines from many songs are true. It says "the truth hurts", "face the facts", "science says I should forget her", ect. My favorite line is "the truth hurts", because as of right now a group protesting for Black Lives Matter feel as though they are being threatened by society. I know many people are protesting peacefully which i don't mind, but once they hear the facts of something as in the statues. This shows me a trend which the some of the population would shift or gravitate towards the side that feels right to them.

Similar to Berger I see a groups pattern, or an economic issue. A group pattern could be of how people against guns barely know about, or know how to get a firearm. A fine example would be Sheila Jackson Representative of Texas says an AR15 or (Armalite Rifle) is a 50 caliber rifle that is really heavy. This information was found on a youtube channel called The officer Tatum, and same to his reaction this representative does not know anything about firearms. Many people believe in this representative when she states this claim.

Sociology changes the way we see society.

Cops are sort of like daily sociologist to me, but not at the same time. An officers mindset is what is the daily trend, and how to help the community by understanding these trend. An example would be the BLM protesters that block up the roads. They want to protect the protesters by helping them move to the side walk. This reduces casualties and always busy people get past to go home or to work.

Culture Shock is something i can not understand too well. Is it the shock of the unknown in society or the shock of how different the other minority groups are. To me it has these two definitions. One example would be of how shocking it is that a Chinese group called Mioa. Not the name, but the way they live compared to the Hmong people in Vietnam. Many things are similar except the way they operate. When Hmong wed people off drinking is a way to show how much money would be given fromeach side of the family. The Mioa people tease each other with alcohol and have a bowl of food as a confession.
The other defintion example is how I see my parents. It shocks me that with these protest going on for BLM, Antifa would join in and start fights with officers. Then what is going on the mind of the Antifa person, while after the initial strike was hit; the BLM group joins in on the fight thinking the officers were just abusing the citizen who through the first hit. The group followed what they thought was the right action for society.

It makes a lot of sense why sociology grew along side Capitalism, for knowing how to give society what they want, such as jeans. They can be cheap and reliable which many common folk can afford while giving a fashionable look. But then such as the book says makes one fit in and special. Jeans have many paths in sociology starting with affordability for people with not much money. Then to fashionable and fitting in. Yet jeans started with labor workers in the past such as cowboys, and miners. Now its more of fashion than durability and usefulness. Many people in my family only see jeans as fashion while I see it a durable pants to hold tools, and get dirty without ruining it for a couple years.

Shopping is something very interesting to me. It started as a quick means of getting what is needed to what we want. Jeans are a good example to show needs and wants. In the past jeans could show the difference between labor workers and the rich. People who wore jeans needed it for there rough and dirty work. While the rich wanted to show their difference by getting clothes that are not for hard workers in labor. Consumers in present day are looking for fashion that expresses who a person is, not for their riches.

As an American Asian I consume many variety of food not only to taste, but to survive when we have a shortage of food. As a hunter I harvest not just the meat of my game, but also certain organs as to not waste the corpse and to have more to eat. This also allows me to pay less for meat products, because my family does not make much. This also relates to my friend in the Caribbean not having much income so he fishes for most of his meat. In a hunter perspective as mine would see that industrial or farm animals is a sort of cruel. Having an raised just to die is worse than an animal that lived its life not being forced to die at a certain age. Usually a person would argue that farm animals live better lives; to me I would say that the animal is trapped in a cage not able to do anything except eat, sleep, and poop where they lay. I know this is true; because I raise chickens to look at, eat, and play with. The ones being eaten are set free everyday to roam and live their lives, but still they live just to die. There also how the animal is processed by who and how. For the animals I dispatch are slaughtered by my own hands. A chicken could be handled by many hands before even getting to the grocery store. I don't know if any of those people were sick. There is only one reason to that all animals have in common for consumption are parasites. A bear can give a person trichinosis if not properly prepared. Pigs also can give a person trichinosis if not properly prepared.

Commodity fetishism shows how we focus on one thing we can't see the story behind it. As for this chapter food is the example for this definition. A chicken nugget is cheap yet we don't appreciate the work that was put into it. My family is always about how convenient it is to get certain items from a store and we usually do not care where it came from.
Another example used in this chapter was chocolate and the child labor or slaves who put effort into making cocoa to chocolate. The chapter also brought up how "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" show how it is a luxury and mythologized. To me I see the people that are working for Wonka are sort of showing slave work. I don't see them getting paid and they seem to live in the factory. This reminds me of how an Native American group thought of how the gods came to see them, but it was a Spanish group that wanted to exploit the country for riches. the people were also taken as slaves, but the people thought they were being chosen.

In many other cultures food is seen as a totem of having a bond with a group. Such as a turkey on thanksgiving day that brings family and friend together for tradition, and national identity. Group identities can be seen through certain food totems.
An example given by this chapter is Mexico and its food, and how food can travel across boarders. Yet many Americans do not see that certain foods represent this sort of totem. Plicher says in his book "Planet Taco A that the popular views of tacos as cheap, hot and maybe dangerous. Giving a racist view of Mexico as a land of tequila, migrants, and tourist diarrhea.

Feminist sociologist shows that historically food was prepared by women. Which shaped the gender division of food labor. American journalist Emily Matchar reports of how many women mostly make dinner and make most food purchases. Some people say women have food standards, more concerned of health, and are more knowledgeable and skilled in the kitchen. To me Women are equal in the kitchen as men, but because of how women and many men are a bit more choosy on what they eat. My Mother makes many dishes in the house such as Emily Matchar says. To my father it is more of how my mother does not like to eat my fathers traditional cooking. All in all women do more in the kitchen than men even through history, splitting genders in the kitchens.

I Believe in Veblen's words that excellent goods is an evidence of wealth. Although this happen a lot in the past, an example would be medieval Europe. A Youtuber named Modern History TV, he shows of how many exotic spices and equipment were mostly owned by the rich and wealthy. One item was a bone spoon for knights. while the lower class usually did not have spoons. But wealth also comes into play today for sort of a social status. In my own family of a Hmong background, buying special expensive items meant one has money or higher class. This mostly is connected with the elders wanting to be the better looking person at a social gathering. One real good example would be the church my family helped build. The older people would always bring in items and show it off just to show the others they have something good going. The people who usually did not show off anything special were usually ignored. Well unless the members were related in some way. As for me, my grandpa was a leader of the Yang family and we still of many artifacts of our wealth from the past such as knives, jewelry, precious medals, and much more giving my family status. This does lead to other Hmong families hating each other. I have many uncles who praise my family, but many who despise us for the wealth and power we have. But to me I feel as though since times are changing; I bring in tradition to bring family together. Plus my family is not that wealthy, we show off a bit. We have many fancy expensive silver wear as well as furniture just to show guest we are a stable wealthy family.

My father has a high social standing same as my grandpa, while my mother is all about economic capital. As for me and my older sister it is cultural capital. I understand my culture usually more than any of my other family members, because of my curiosity. small amounts of our silver jewelry dates back to ancient china to the Miao people. My understanding gives me a cultural status in my family, but because of that I am mostly ignored by the elders. The main culture capital would be the ability to make rice alcohol, and make jewelry with silver money.

For the younger generations from ages around 20 lower would use coffee as a social item in the Hmong community. Though in my family drinking any beverage would count as long as you had some sort of snack to keep the guest excited. Coffee does show one thing in my family history is social change, as well as economic change if the coffee taste good. Buying coffee at Starbucks coffee meant, in my family, that you got money to buy such an expensive useless, but delicious cup of tea. Although I say it is useless, my eldest uncle would say it is medicinal to drink coffee to make a man have more energy under the sheets. Main reason for me to say it is useless is that it helps me sleep more than stay awake.

Social classes is something that shows everyone who you are. If you don't earn any sort of money, then are you a student. If not then its not a fun conversation. To me I see this everywhere from schools to work places. Social classes are very important to people, but I don't know as to why. My people that write music always complain about how we want this we want that, but for what?, looks? Hmong people are still very traditional and cultural people; except the younger generation. Having some sort of high status shows a family you are worth talking to. A Hmong mother would gladly put an arranged marriage for her daughter to a man who works hard and has a lot of money. But it usually ends bad in my family from cheating to killing each other. Who knew that these old thoughts would pop up from a cup of coffee.
