In 1862, when Peter took power, all of Russia was isolated from Europe, Peter was determined to open Russia to the west. For example, Peter I built a modern new capitol named after himself - St. Petersburg. Example for Catherine II, she was an absolute ruler who governed with an iron fist, allowing few freedoms and forcing Jews into a limited area called the Pale of Settlement.

Ivan III was the leader of Russia who conquered it from the Mongols. The next ruler was Ivan IV, he was a cruel tyrant that persecuted boyars by attacking and seizing their lands.
