Though there's still some that say it is a sign of how everything is falling in their minds, their humanity, their self control, and staying in a right state of mind. They are losing their judgment and are not use to following rules anymore.

Most sources I have looked up say that the fire is a symbol in which is used to show the fear and Destruction within the book. Basically showing how because of them being on the island they are destroying their morals and who they are. The fire has caused arguments to rise and escalate between people.

The fire symbolized the hope of the kids on the island. In the beginning it'd stay burning because they had higher hopes of surviving and getting off the island. They thought that the grown ups would find them soon. -MN

The fire represents the hope and faith in survival. It give Ralph the sense that they have a chance at surviving and being rescued. -Arianna

"The signal fire burns on the mountain, and later in the beach so passing ships can see it and rescue the boys. The fire becomes the boys connection to civilization. When the boys keep the fire going it is a sign that they still want to be rescued and return to society. When the fire goes low or burns out, we can see they have lost their desire to be rescued of became savages." -unknown. As proved when Jake went to go hunt the pig and let the fire go out. He became a savage to kill the pig with the other boys and they missed the boat, showing how when they act like an animal they loose human parts of them.

The signal fire in chapters 6-12 has changed throughout the story. It use to stand for excape and being able to leave to go back home but now it is just a way to get food. The kids no longer care about going home they just want to hunt, kill and eat.

The signal fire in chapters 6-12 has become less and less significant. They have lost hope so they are less concerned with the fire since they don't believe they will get saved. Instead of uniting together and helping with the fire they instead turn on one another. Jack and his guys are really only concerned with hunting & food.

The signal fire doesn't represent rescue anymore it's used as a cooking fire to survive and not for rescue its more savage

The signal fire in chapters 6-12 died off they stopped using it instead they used little fires just to cook food. It more represents the civilized side of the boys slipping away the more the fire goes away.

There fire was used as a signal for rescue but, now it is use just to cook and to keep warm.

This is the last we see of the fire as it burns down the forest because the boys were using it as a weapon.
