We aim to develop relationships with funding sources that enable us to support projects on campus and in our community through grants and mentorship programs. We seek to create cutting-edge research and teaching opportunities by connecting researchers from disparate fields and locations at MSU and beyond. Through a combination of technologies, we will provide interdisciplinary researchers at MSU with information resources, venues for promoting their work, and access to funding, conference, and training opportunities. We will shape graduate education for interdisciplinary scholars, working with community partners to address complex problems. Finally, we will advocate for faculty in conversations about infrastructural issues, tenure and promotion, interdisciplinary scholarship, and careers outside of academia.

The fusion of ideas, techniques, and expertise from the traditional academic fields provides for the evolution of modern and imaginative methods of research, and the creation of new fields of endeavor. The founding directors of the GIDP recognized this cannot effectively be conducted within traditional disciplinary boundaries more than 55 years ago and through their efforts a standard of a broader range of research and training was established and have endured at The University of Arizona. The collaborative relationship between colleges across campus and the 19 GIDPs creates unique opportunities for students to pursue and realize their aspirations in new research bringing about change serving the community and the world.
