These famous lines from the song really give the listener a good idea of what should be taken away when hearing the lyrics. These lyrics hit my heart because it reminds me of how amazing He is and how much gratitude and hallelujah I have toward Him. It reminds me of how I can't do enough to earn His love but He loves me anyways and no matter where I am in my life He will always be there to put me back on my feet. is so true in a situation of Fighting someone's addiction for them because you want their heart in a healthy state to get through the past which haunts them leading to their addiction.

The song continues and reminds me of a memory of which is of a night different than others. It was a sum of every night where goodbyes were on the table of a relationship I was in for almost 2 years. This particular night is the longest goodbye out of all the goodbyes showing that throughout it all, harsh words and last minutes of reassurance proved this was definitely the most overwhelming for sometimes it's just too late. but it's hard to determine what too late was back then.

"We've been fighting for so long it'd be a shame to let this go, but I'd rather let it lie than hurt a sweet girl I know And it's getting dark now so won't you just stay
And I'll tell you that I love you 'til the leaving goes away.."

this is where verse 2 comes in and hits this memory like no other sending me into a deep sigh. Through this goodbye lasting all night, it would just follow with staying with them another night, but I had to leave that town the next day so she was forced to accept that there was no going back leading to ME breaking,

"promises I can't keep".

following these lyrics further in the song continue with,

"And you'll try to understand why I can't be a better man..."

I'd try to admit to my wrongs and make them right to get past her grudges but overall she knew the toll my heart took when I'd put my mental health on the line for her. In her words, "you're the only person that understands me most." so I know she appreciated it most because all tho,

"...but It's hard when I'm yelling at you in the street. So if leaving comes to staying and you walk yourself away.
Leave knowing that no one could love you more than me"

listening to this song now I realize through texts left unread that she understands but I can't accept her knowing now that I couldn't "be a better man" because the "leavings" and the "I love yous" have simply finally "gone away" and I'm the one that has walked myself away...

..love sometimes can show how hard-headed our minds can get and how it can in return lead to our hearts becoming just as ignorant as our minds are hard-headed. Though the words "hard-headed" and "ignorant" are synonyms for each other when put in toxic situations made one night into many due to the unbalance of both fighting together yet against each other. Toxicity blinds you from the love in your heart because the memory that sparks love in your mind is too bright for them to work together to help you see how to accept a goodbye.
