The book is about a Pakistani-American teen named Naila. Naila was born in America by her Pakistani parents. Naila is a senior in high school and already have plans for college. But once her family found out that she had a boyfriend they decided to ground her. Then they decided to have her and the family go to Pakistan. Even though she was Pakistani she never had a chance to go to Pakistan, so this was a first. When they went to Pakistan the parents tried to keep her in Pakistan longer than needed, because they didn´t want her to go to her college orientation. They believed in arranged marriage and were trying to find a man for Naila to marry and she didn´t even know. Naila tries to go back home, while her parents try to get her married.

One thing that I did like in this story was that it was so unpredictable, and was packed with a lot of surprises. The grammar was fine, and it was in third-person narration. The setting of the story was normal, and the story is relatable.

There was this one character in the story named Saif. I do feel as if Saif was an interesting character in this story. I find it ironic on how he was able to find Naila in Pakistan. And I also wonder just how rich is his family.

The story and its concept of arranged marriage happens a lot in foreign traditions.

On the cover page there’s a girl outside, looking up in the stars, with a bunch of mosque and other buildings in a distance behind her. I feel like this might of been a clip of some point in the book when Nail was trying to sneak out, and run away, so she can fly back to america. But I do doubt that as well, because she don’t have any bags or anything.

Recommendations

I’m not really too sure on who I will recommend this book to, since it’s about such controversial topic. Not too many people who can relate to this book, probably would want to read it. And for people who do not relate, would probably find no interest in reading it. So I think that this is not really a book you can just recommend to anybody, and expect them to read it and actually be comfortably enjoying it. So I recommend this book to nobody really, which kind of surprised myself.

Song Connection

I think the song by Ed Sheeran called Perfect will go great with one part when Naila was getting beat up by her arranged mother-in-law, and then her boyfriend from America came and saved her, after getting beat from Naila’s arranged husband. After being able to escape from them he was able to have his father drive him and Naila away. And then later they were able to go back to America. It just seems like it will connect since it’s a song that will just highlight the moment of love between them, and also snse their young. So yeah.
