He went to school in Wrenshall from kindergarten through graduation in 1995. "I worked on my family's organic vegetable farm every summer while I was in school, and came back to the farm after graduation to work alongside my parents in developing it further." He spent one winter working for a small non-profit in South Eastern Minnesota helping to coordinate a program for beginning farmers. "Having a diversified vegetable farm is  challenging but also rewarding because it requires all aspects of a person to be successful." Janaki says. He loves to work hard, but farming is also about financial management, marketing, and the ability to research and solve complex problems. "That may not sound enjoyable to most people, but it is extremely rewarding for me."

She teaches at the College of St. Scholastica, UWS, and is the northeast regional coordinator for the Minnesota Council of Non-profits. They have two young boys, Truman and Ellis, "who are endlessly fun to have on the farm." He also has two brothers, Jason and Ben. Jason lives in Cincinnati and Ben lives in Holyoke.
