Legally blonde follows Elle Woods on her academic journey to becoming a lawyer. Elle originally decided to go to law school to get her ex boyfriend back, but after she found out he was engaged to someone else she decided to continue her education. She was constantly belittled by her peers and professors since she did not fit the stereotype of a smart individual. Elle sticks to her personality, excels at law school and wins a case. While working on the case her professor sexualized her and expressed that the only reason she was put on he case was because of his attraction to her and he made advances towards her. Elle graduates from harvard law and finds a better man than the ex that did not support her.

I have rewatched Legally Blonde (at minimum) twice a year for the last 5 years. It has been one of my favorite movies for awhile and I was beyond excited to see that it was an option for this assignment. I think that it brings a lot of light to serious issues by making it fun and relatable. There has always been a odd stereotype that not only are women not expected to go into competitive fields but especially not conventionally attractive women.

In the beginning of the semester we all took implicit bias quizzes to test our own bias. It was very interesting to see that many people tend to associate high power positions with men. Within the movie this idea is alluded to heavily. One example is the character, Vivian, was treated as a secretary to the professor while her male counterparts were treated as regular law students.

Each article articulates the real life issues faced by women in law as it is a male dominated field and many women are seen as too 'emotional' to be proper lawyers.
