Paventi is a survivor of the attack that day on 9/11. He had been in the North Twin Tower when the tower got hit by the first plane. According to the source I read about his story he had at first thought it was an earthquake so he decided to hide under a table. He had hid under the table until  he got word of it being a plane and started to go down the nearest stairs he could get to, escape. David Paventi had with him at the time no cell phone like we do today, but he did have a pager in which he had almost left in Charlotte where he had traveled from for business in New York City. On his pager he received major stock market update emails, but today as he was going down the stairs to escape he was receiving news alerts that there would be a delay in the stock opening due to a plane crashing into the Twin Towers. He quickly sent emails back and forth talking to his wife back in Charlotte, reporting to her his escape.

But still after a week after 9/11, the games resumed, but the New Yorkers were still worried an shocked. Bush was determined to serve the first pitch at the first game of the worlds series in Bronx on October 30. He was dressed very with a bulletproof vest. Bush came out from the Yankees dugout while waving at the crowd, the crowds of people cheered as the president threw a strike right over ho e plate. This structure was 2 stories above ground level and was located next to a building that was adjacent to the Twin Towers located in the trade center complex. This 37 step staircase acted as a safe passage way for more than 100 Americans to evacuate safely to the trade center plaza below. After the 9 story building next to the staircase collapsed from the “earthquake” and debris from the North tower, this was the only above ground structure remaining. This staircase is now displayed next to an escalator in the September 11th museum. This staircase reminds us of how even when everything is falling around us, we have to try to stay on top. At 8:50 AM, an Incident Command Center was established in the lobby of the North Tower. The FDNY Chief arrived at 9 AM shortly after United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower, the FDNY Chief arrived and took over control of the scene, moving the command center across West Street due to concerns for falling debris and safety, however numerous fire chiefs remained in the lobby that continued to serve as an operations post where alarms, elevators, communications, and other equipment continued to operate. FDNY was initially on rescue and evacuation, which involved sending firefighters to assist people trapped, and to ensure that all floors were completely evacuated. Many firefighters did not stop at staging areas to report and get instructions, which meant that chiefs could not keep track of their units, and several firefighters reported directly to the building lobbies, who ordered them to go into the building immediately. Even worse, commanders lost radio communication with units because the World Trade Center’s repeater system malfunctioned after the attack, which was required for portable radio signals to transmit reliably. Many off-duty firefighters also arrived to help without their radios. This all meant firefighters were unable to report to commanders on their progress, and were unable to hear evacuation orders. FDNY also lacked communication with NYPD, who had helicopters, or EMS, and the firefighters lack access to TV reports or other outside information, and was unaware what happened when the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 AM. The battalion chief made an order to evacuate the North Tower immediately afterwards, but many did not hear the order due to faulty radios, resulting in 343 firefighters dying in the collapse. The command post across West Street was taking out when the South Tower collapsed, and falling debris killed Peter Ganci, the FDNY Chief, when the North Tower collapsed. The FDNY deployed 200 units to the site, with more than 400 firefighters on the scene when the buildings collapsed. Sofia was in New York the day that 9/11 happened and saw the towers explode. While she was interviewing Mayor Giuliano, they told her that something is going on with the twin towers and that she and her crew had to leave at that moment. While she was leaving, she saw that everyone was running the other way including cars. Once she and her crew got to a corner, a couple minutes later the first tower exploded and she captured the tower falling. But she did not even hear it when the first tower exploded because she was so confused in what she was going to do that she couldn’t hear  she and her crew that they had to leave, she ignored the police because she ended up going to the way that the explosion happened. While they were going towards the explosion, the other tower exploded. But the camera person did not stop recording even while they was running away from the explosion.

On the day of the attack a picture of her had been taken helping out a man who had been injured out of the tower, after this image had been taken it was she had ran right back inside the South Tower however this is when the tower had collapsed leading to the passing of Moira Smith. It had also been said that she had brought more people away from the area to 13th Precinct which had been the place she worked at, and headed right back to help more innocent people. A way the NYPD had commemorated her heroic deeds were by naming the street she grew up on after her as well as naming the Square Park that was in Madison after her. 

Moira Ann Smith was a heroic woman who risked her life helping out others, to this day she is a role model.

There has been so much accomplishments with these dogs, an estimated 300 search and rescue dogs helped find survivors in the rubble of the former Twin Towers. These dogs only suffered minor injuries like scrapes and cuts. Lots of these cute, fluffy animals have played a major role of helping people out after the attacks. One German Shepherd police dog named Trackr rescued one survivor and according to TIME magazine, is called the most heroic animals. Some other dogs have helped there owners lead their way out of the burning buildings, like Salty and Roselle. Many dogs spent hours trying to find lone survivors. Not just rescue dogs have helped in these outrageous attacks, therapy dogs have a major role since according to the American Kennel Club, 100 teams of therapy dogs were deployed to NYC and helped assisted lifting the spirits of first responders, and families of lost ones, etc. Many of these dogs are still living but some has sadly passed away. These dogs are heroes and should continue to be recognized.

Thinking he would die, he used his radio to tell the other policemen to tell his pregnant wife asking that she fulfill his wish that they name their unborn child Olivia. Joe Dittmar was at the top of the South Tower , Floor 105, and managed to escape. Joe and others have been ordered to evacuate the building without knowing why they were told to do so. After walking 15 floors down, he looked out the window and saw the unbelievable sight of the “Huge black holes” in the North Tower. He saw the plane lodged inside the North Tower while it being up in flames. He continued to go down the stairwell until around the 73rd floor when Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower but he was already a few floors below the strike zone. He finally made in to the first floor, then escaped through the subway station underneath the World Trade Center. Jonas and his troops went to go help her and a little while after, the North Tower then started to fall around them, but didn’t crush any of the troops, Captain Jay Jonas, or Josephine Harris. Jonas felt as though if she were not there at the time, him and his troops would be dead.

The 62-year-old Vietnam veteran fought for better safety measures at his place of work, especially after the 1993  terrorist bombing in the North Tower’s basement. Ever since, he always worried there would be another attack. He had warned his wife Susan of a feeling that he had that something was going to happen, months before the attack. Fast forward to September 11, 2001, disaster struck. Amid the chaos, Rescorla picked up his megaphone. And despite receiving instruction to stay in place, he refused and told the workers to follow his evacuation plan. He led nearly 2,700 workers out of the office. Once it seemed like they all evacuated, he decided to go back in and make sure none was left behind. Rescorla went back up with firemen to make sure everyone on the top floor was out. It was the last time anyone saw him alive. Rescorla didn’t make it out of the building. But because of him, nearly 2,700 people did.

A couple weeks prior to the 9/11 attacks Janice Brooks moved to New York. In the South Tower of the World Trade Center, she worked for international brokerage firm Euro Brokers. Brooks worked on the 84th floor and she managed to escape after hearing about a plane hitting the other tower. Sadly, 61 of her colleagues did not survive.

One evening he is having a normal day at work except for the fact that he was tired. Once he finished, his manager calls him and says, “Since you stayed late, you can come later tomorrow.” The next morning he wakes up comfortably and get’s ready and watches the news. The man went up and down the stairs 3 times just to help as much people as he can save, but that was until the south building collapsed. He died attempting to try to save as many lives as he could not caring about his own. After a reported contacted the man’s mom she said he had always carried the red bandanna since he was a boy no matter what. Now that bandanna is on display in the 9/11 museum.
