Writers commonly add a comma to their sentences when there is no need for it. In a writer's mind, adding a comma to a sentence makes sense at first but when a writer proof readers their writing, then they realize that a comma is not needed.

I have struggled with compound sentences by always adding a comma after I type one of the FANBOYS words into my sentence. I always thought to myself that if there is ever an 'and' or a 'but' then there should be a comma before that. Now, after I have reflected on compound sentences, I know that is not always true and that I should always proofread my work before submitting.
