I have always been interested in healthcare; obtaining a CNA license made me realize I didn’t want to do bedside patient care. I'm most interested in the drug portion of healthcare and hope to minor in pharmacology and toxicology next year. There have been many outside occurrences that have influenced my decision. I’ve noticed so many disparities among the black community and saw a low percentage of African Americans in jobs like the one I'd like to go into. Also, many teachers have pushed me toward success. My health occupation teachers played a crucial role in what profession I want to be in. In the two years I spent with them, I received many skills and knowledge about healthcare. As well as other teachers I’ve made connections with, their belief in my success reassured me that I could face any goal I had in mind and allow it to become true. Their influence was like no other. They've given me direction and belief that I can pursue my dream profession as a certified anesthesiologist assistant.

Some of the most common career paths that were interesting are Grant writing Administration, Pharmacology: drug properties, interactions, application, and development, and Agricultural: crop production/storage, Food science: preservation and nutrients. The employers that interested me are the Food and Drug Administration, commercial medical laboratories, and Private testing laboratories, including forensics. The state and local employers surprised me the most, and it was shocking that it was an option. I hope to follow some strategies like gaining experience in healthcare through internships, and research with professors.
Connecting what I learned from the interviewee to my story.

I interviewed Joyce Valentine. The interview was taken over the phone on October twenty-second at 6 p.m. I was given insight into her profession while learning her background information on her education process. She went into healthcare seeking to go into labor and delivery. When she was younger, she had to undergo an operation; the nurse who took care of her that day influenced her to provide that same comfort to patients who are overcome by fear. As an RN, she is tasked with discharing, educating, and making calls. This interview was taken to give me more insight into the healthcare field, but in return, it has also shown me most seeking to be in the medical field want to create change. Throughout the interview, it was made clear that Joyce and I had different ideal jobs in the healthcare field. Even with different job ideals, we must make a change that is ever so silent, like patient laughter, but so impactful that it is remembered.

Something learned during this interview was the common obstacle to communication. "Everyone doesn't share the same values, but you must respect others' morals and values. Agreeing to disagree is the best option in that case. Realizing that your goal is to support patients where they're at medically, no matter how you view a person." Joyce said. Providing care with an unbiased viewpoint is something that is expected from you.

Joyce is also a part of an organization, the A21 Health Organization. A21 is a non-profit organization passionate about seeing humans everywhere rescued from bondage and completely restored. By joining this organization, she hopes to abolish the exploitation of millions of people.

Gathering more information about my career path was super fun. As a freshman, I'm just doing basic classes that aren't diving into my major right now. Giving me the chance to talk or explore it more makes me happy. Also, hearing a perspective that's in the healthcare field was very informative.

This interview sample helped to inform me of what approach to take with the interview. I now knew what length of the responses are expected and what questions should be asked. Questions that can help me learn more about the profession. Something that stood out to me in the sample interview was the fourth reply that was given. I loved the way Hojnosk talked about creating presentations. The presentations were different for each audience. Examples given from the concept of her process were easy to understand. Follow up questions may not be necessary but they allow the interviewer to acquire more information about the interviewee.

In high school, my love for science grew more and more. I've always seen science as something quite challenging, but that's where my love for it lies. Tackling components was exciting and rewarding. Science was something that stood out from all the other core subjects. Looking ahead, I want to study something I love but later apply and showcase it in healthcare. Science is impressive, and being a part of the healthcare team to save patients is a dream of mine.
