I read Canyon's Edge when I was updating potential books for our books in verse unit. I was instantly amazed by the emotion, thoughtfulness, and word art on the pages. I shouldn't be surprised because the author Dusti Bowling is such a great emotional fiction writer, but somehow in the poems it came across as more vivid and authentic. It was one of my favorite books of the year!

When Alan Gratz spoke our our ELA classes this year, he talked all about the research he did for his new novel Two Degrees. The teachers got advanced copies and I was thrilled to read the three intertwining stories of climate change and the impact on the environment. As usual, Mr. Gratz is a master of setting and make me feel chilled being chased by a polar bear, warm when the wild fires were raging, and scared when the winds blew for a hurricane. The way they all came together at the end made this a great reading experience!

Ground Zero tells the tale of two people surrounded by a weapon of destruction: war. Nine year old Brandon comes to work with his father on the 107 floor of the twin towers. On September 11, 2001. 11 year Old Reshima is caught in between a raging war between America and the Taliban, and both people must fight for what's right. History is a dark thing, and some of it makes us remember terrible times. This book truly inspired me, because it made me open my eyes to some new viewpoints that I never took time to understand. This book is great, and I hope others believe this, too.

And eventually she finds her way back home missing the girls who passed and the ones who still needed care. this was a heart warming and amazing book which shows triumph in a time of fear.

The Book Thief is one of the best books I've read in my entire life! Markus Zusak always found new and unique ways to keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time that I was reading it. You get to see a whole new perspective a life that I never thought I'd see before. Narrated by Death himself overlooking the chaos of World War 2 and a girl named Lisel. I would recommend this book to anyone who's even remotely interested in historical fiction because of how outstanding it is.

I absolutely adore this book. From the riveting emotional drama, to the compelling story, and the interesting conflict between the characters, this dystopian novel Bloom by Kenneth Oppel, is one for the ages. I will try my best to tell you just how special this book is, without many spoilers. So, the story of this book, and its prequel for that matter, is simple, yet beautifully executed. In this story, life is good, and all is well, until one day mysterious plants break out all over the island. And, as the characters of the book explore more and more into these strange plants putting the very world they know into a choke-hold, they uncover the undeniable truth that these plants coincide with a struggle for power and rule over all.

Out of all the books I've read this year, my absolute favorite is Everything, Everything. This is such a heartfelt, and inspiring book that shows the life of a teenage girl Maddy Whittier who has a very rare disease that makes her allergic to the world. This book shows the importance of risk taking and how life is meant to have mistakes. Maddy learns how to live a little and drift from her mom's strict rules. She has a love interest, Olly, and finds out a shocking secret that will impact her forever. The author truly creates an impactful story, and is now one of my favorite books.

This book was great because there was a lot of character devolpment in the book and I found it very cool to see the characters overcoming different problems. Also Niclona did a great job of making the characters relatable and the book not to full of romance. The book also had a great story and theme.

The book Hunger Games created a concept I have never seen before. I know its strange but the concept of being held captive and trying to kill everybody around you is very interesting. I love seeing this dystopian world that Katniss lives in. It makes me wonder what bad things could happen to our world. I love the Hunger Games!

The main character Maren Montgomery attends a boarding school for the children of extremely wealthy families. While being there she becomes best friends with a girl named Polly. The plot kept me attached and wanting to keep reading. The characters were so relatable and realistic. The whole selection series was one of my favorites this year and I highly recommend it.

I absolutely loved a Good Girls Guide to murder. This book had so many twists and turns, my jaw dropped many times well reading it. I never wanted to put the book down. It was such a great read. If you are looking for a good mystery READ THIS BOOK and if you enjoy it definitely read the rest of the series.

My favorite book was Astrophysics For People In A Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson. It was a radical book about all sorts of, well, astrophysics (pretty self-explanitory). It was also humorous (in a nerdy way) and easy to understand (with help from Aslan, of course). Honestly, I'm just glad I didn't space out during this book.

Animal Farm by George Orwell completely blew me away through its life-like tone, excellent plot, and most of all: the allegorical reference to the Russian Revolution. Based on the summary, I did not expect much of Animal Farm as a politically based story; however, it has become one of the best books I've read on the topic.
