Nash and I both mentioned similar thoughts about how literacy may impact our future classroom as social studies teachers, especially primary texts and the use of older language and sentence structures.

Tommy mentioned that he really enjoyed Percy Jackson growing up. I also loved the Percy Jackson books growing up and read all the different series. I reread a few last year for fun!

Addy and I think everyone else mentioned having questions about the best way to teach when you have students who are at different literacy levels. I think that it is a really important concern, and that it becomes less clear how to address that as a student gets older.

Josie mentioned that she attended preschool but doesn’t remember it well. Which actually reminded me that I also went to two years of preschool. I am curious how much of a difference that makes in literacy when those students start kindergarten or first grade.
