Location: Savannah, Georgia
Date: September 16-October 20, 1779
Summary: This was a failed attempt by the American/French forces that numbered 5000 who tried taking the city of Savannah back. This town was guarded by 3000 British soldiers. The American Commander Benjamin Lincoln decided to attack on October 9th on a fortification but many soldiers where lost in the swamp or confused due to heavy fog. Then they got to the fortification and it was filled with battle hardened with British soldiers who demolished the American/French lines.A week later Lincoln called of the seige. This town was never recaptured all during the war. This battle is significant because while the British lost about 150 men the Americans lost about 1000 men. This didn't just affect morale but it caused the amount of total soldiers to go down significantly and they really didn't gain anything from it.

Location: Yorktown, Virginia
Date: October 10,1781
Summary: In this specific situation the British were backed up against the York river with hope that they could get supplies and then go on the offensive against the colonist. While they were doing this however, George Washington and his French ally "Comte de Rochambeau" had accumulated 20,000 troops just south of Virginia with plans to siege Yorktown. Also while this was happening the French navy forced the British ships trying to supply the British soldiers at Yorktown away. The combined army of Frenchmen and colonist started the siege on September 28. They began by building trenches to allow then to get closer to Yorktown. They also started to bombarded the British defenders for a week. Then George Washington ordered an assault on fortifications called redoubts, which was led by Alexander Hamilton and these assaults all were successful. With the British surrounded on all 3 sides they tried to do a counter-attack but it failed. So instead the commander surrendered with his 8,000 remaining men. This battle was the last major battle of the American Revolution and allowed for us to begin to have independence.
