What if classroom designs can be updated with better integration of furnitures, storage solutions, and electronic equipments to better suit the needs of teachers and students.

Example:

1. Foldable/integrated table and seating solutions that allows full floor space for discussion and group activities when stored. Better utilisation of classroom walls for students work/digital notice boards/storage.

2. Movable Wide screen TVs instead of a single projector for more dynamic and flexible usage.

3. Air conditioned, air purifying (bacteria in high concentration of students), sound proofing for a focused and conducive learning environment.

I am thinking if teaching and learning in school/class can be less static, but more station-based, so that there is more organic movement by the students. Stations can be supplemented by artifacts for hands-on learning and augmented reality.

Art + Chinese = porcelain, painting or studying the value of artworks.. ePed lessons - using IT to learn calligraphy or basics of water painting.

Chinese + Science = ancient technology - sailing, weapons and science.

Languages = All the rich cultural and historical things. Eg tea trade. And the influence of Chinese in Southeast Asian culture and even Malay language.

eg. chawan in Malay is cha wan.

What if we looked at what we already have from a new perspective?

Students experience learning that transcends classroom like Blood Typing and Blood Splatter Analysis in CSI for Science, using their skills in Map Reading and Historical Knowledge in Amazing Race ard EVG for Geography and History and other carnival like activities for Maths and EL.

The overlap in morals and virtues could provide a strong foundation to encourage an environment of kindness and empathy. This approach would help nurture future-ready citizens who are not only skilled but also compassionate and caring.

This could serve as an alternative assessment, enabling students to practice public speaking, build confidence, and connect with their cultural heritage in a more engaging and controlled setting. It would allow students to take ownership of their learning and sharing their thoughts autonomously.

No one can escape public speaking. It is important for students to acknowledge this fact as well.

As much as a lot of Science is observable and tangible, much of it is also quite unintuitive. Therefore, Science involves a lot of unlearning and relearning. History shows all the ways in which humans realised they were wrong about Science; the current state of the field is the culmination of years of research and discovery to figure out what it means to think and do Science in a way that can be considered right.

Students who find Science confusing should not think of themselves as lacking the aptitude for Science, but as belonging to a different era, e.g. ancient philosophers vs. renaissance period polymaths vs. contemporary researchers. They can come to a proper understanding of modern Science simply by sailing through the ages.

I have always been excited about helping students develop metacognition. I think one way is to encourage students to express their thought process through speaking/writing/illustrating. Ideally, the way they to do it should be clear enough as to be instructive for someone else.

Idea: Fitness corner which encompasses different exercises & fixated weights for students to take responsibility for their own fitness. (Something that is translatable to Post-Secondary life as the current fitness corners around the neighbourhood are quite well-designed.)

Another idea:

Modified NAPFA stations for Sec 1 & 3 -Work on similar muscle groups but a different exercise tested. Students get to learn different exercises while still keeping fit with our goal of testing their NAPFA every year.

2) Would be lovely to add splashes of colour to the school. eg staircase ledges could have quotes about the values/ walls could have lively murals on the wall that complement our current information boards. Classrooms could have a medium whiteboard at the back for students to decorate and maintain without their work being erased for lessons. Interactive and promotes ownership/ building of a community.

Perhaps we could get students who commit offences to give back to the school, in terms of service.

There is a display of the change in drivers uniform, car plates, bus ticking machines and various iconic bus items over the years. We can see how the bus transport system developed over the years at a glance.

What if we have a Evergreen heritage corridor? Have a heritage display of our school iconic items over the years. Let each batch of students see what’s in the past and also add in contributions over the years.

To create pride and practices that are passed on with each now cohort. These are things students can look forward to and expect from year to year - help build school culture.

The photos can capture students in action and document our iconic school events over the years as the students grow up. It also serves as a memory wall as each batch of students graduate some of their batch photos stays and they become the “heritage” of our school. The walls need not be filled up fully but be allowed to “grow” and populate slowly over the years.

By putting in photos of out students in action during their VIA session, the tree captures the students continuous learning and contributing back to our community.
