The Digital Camera

In the production of the sequence, we used a JVC 3CCD camera, which recorded in 720p and at 50fps. We were told to use the automatic focus because, had we used the manual focus and not set it back correctly, it would have messed up the shots. However, we did manage to play around with the automatic focus in order to give off an effect much like the manual focus (for example, the shot of the ink pot), which, in turn, looked more cinematic.

Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) Suite

We created our sequence using the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) Suite, in which we used Premiere Pro for creating the linear sequence, After Effects for potential titles and any Visual Effects besides colour grading, and Audition to record some of the foley sounds and edit the abstract non-diegetic sounds.

Premiere Pro CC was used in order to edit the sequence. The application allowed us to cut the footage and make sure it all worked and was in place. It also allowed us to do the colour grading using the 'Color' workspace, which made our sequence look all the more appealing. As we could have multiple tracks in the sequence, it allowed us to overlap ccertain things in order to perfect certain transitions, titles and give an anamorphic cinemascope. Without this, we would not have been able to produce the sequence.

After Effects CC was used to experiment with title animations and any additional visual effects. In the end, we did not add anymore visual effects besides some basic colour correction, but we did experiment with things like lens flares. Without this, we wouldn't haven known what to do with the titles to make it seem visually appealing.

Audition CC was use to record and edit audio files. We used it to record the foley sound effects of the letter and writing, and also enabled us to play around with noise removal in order to make the sound much clearer. Additionally, we could ply around with tempo, pitch, reverb and other effects in order to enhance our audio.

Video Copilot and Production Crate

In order to get some professional ambient drones and other non-diegetic sounds like risers, I used my drive, on which MotionPulse by Video Copilot was stored. Using their incredible cinematic effects, we enhanced our production.

We also used Production Crate in order to get the music. We used a song composed by Gerado Garcia Jr, a musician part of Production Crate for years. I first heard of him back in 2012 during the creation of short films, and due to his music being royalty free, we enhanced our sequence by using his music.

We took the sounds into Adobe Audition, in which we played around with them and exported them once they were better. We then layered them in the sequence to sound like a cinematic soundscape.

To conclude, I feel that I've learnt a lot regarding technology that is used within filmmaking, and have enhanced my skills which I will use in the future. The most useful piece of technology that we used in my opinion was Premiere Pro CC, as we could not have made any of the sequence without it. It's a very professional product and, if used well, can give your piece a very cinematic and professional look.
