What I knew about archictecture

Before the module, I had many ideas on what architecture was, mainly gained through entertainment sources and reading about it on the internet. I saw and appreciated the art of the buildings that I saw to be beautiful. My interests in architecture focused mainly on the pre-renaissance structures and monuments and the wealth of knowledge that could be gained on the time periods during which they were built. What the peoples of that time could achieve even with their level of technology and the beauty and majesty of the monuments of their times.

What I learned on architecture after the module

In the architecture module, I learned about the more technical aspects of the beauty that constituted the buildings that we observed. I learned about classical, medieval, renaissance, and modern styles of architecture in more detail than I had previously. I learned more about the methods and terminologies used in the analysis and construction of various buildings discussed in the module.

While I believe that the module was sufficient for the level and expectations of non-architecture students, I would definitely like to advance in studies on the subject of architecture and subjects. I would like to learn more about classical and medieval constructions and in what way that their constructions were made majestic and beautiful even during their time, with their construction techniques considered ancient by our standards.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is a statue by Edvard Eriksen located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is based upon the story of the same name by Hans Christen Andersen, about a mermaid becoming human. It was commissioned by Carl Jacobsen after seeing a ballet about the fairy tale. I think it is beautiful because of the symbolism and connection it has to the themes and story of the original story. The Mermaid’s face looks forlorn and despondent, as though she was not able to gain the love of her prince, even if that’s chronologically wrong in-story. The face could also be interpreted as a longing for the humanity she desires so she could be with the prince. It is that hope in the features represented in both the fairy tale and the statue that I believe to be the beauty of the art work. The earnest hope that the mermaid’s dream would come true, and her transformation into an air spirit as a chance to achieve her dream are what I believe to be very beautiful things.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Copenhagen_-_the_little_mermaid_statue_-_2013.jpg
