Phrasing

This week, work on Phrasing. Phrasing refers to grouping words together and pausing

appropriately when speaking or reading.

Good readers group words into phrases to improve their own and their listeners’ understanding of the text. Commas and end punctuation indicate where some, but not all, pauses should occur.

Practicing phrasing has significantly improved my fluency and understanding. Initially, my reading was choppy because I tended to pause at inappropriate places. Focusing on punctuation and grouping words meaningfully has made my reading much smoother. Listening to fluent readers has also helped me learn natural phrasing and expression. Now, I feel more confident and have a better understanding of texts. I will continue to practice to improve even further.

I noticed that when I read I could get mixed up on which words I'm reading. I really think my second recording was a bit better. I think that sometimes when I'm reading a sentence at the end of the sentence I may reread the sentence. Overall I think my reading rate was good.

I noticed that when I read I sometimes mess up my words. I think I did a good job on my reading rate. I also think that I need to work on how I pronounce my words. I think if I practice more I could get better at reading fluently.

I noticed when I read I could sometimes have my reading rate go really fast or really slow. I feel like this time I did way better than my other two recordings. I think I did a good job on reading most of the words correctly and not mixing up the sentences. Overall I think I did a good job.

I notice when I read I tend to go way to fast that's why its sounds like I'm not reading g because I try to find my place. Also when I read I put words in there that make sense to me but its not what I am reading. When I group words I notice that it sounds more clear and that it sounds natural. Finally I think I read at an average rate but I want to sound like I know the passage on the first day when I really don't.

I noticed that when I read I messed up on some words. I saw that over all, when I was doing the last time I read the passage I still messed up. I also noticed that the first, second, and third time I read I was reading faster and more fluently. I sometimes pause too much when I read, which makes my reading sound bad and messy. What helps me is grouping the words together and when I know that a hard word is coming read it faster. I do that so I could get that word over with. If I mess up I go back and read it slowly until I get it right.

After listening to myself read, I realized that my phrasing was good. I think that I could work on making sure that I know where I am because I found that I got lost a couple times. I realize that I slowed down when it's a harder word I should try to keep the same steady pace. Besides those two mistakes, I think I did a good job.
