This garish use of 'makeup' is meant to suggest style and glamor, reinforcing Taylor’s celebrity status.” This description provoked questions for us around how the work simultaneously lauds and problematizes the longstanding markers of "beauty" entrenched in our cultural understandings. It made us questions what "glamor" truly is, and if the toil and oppressive circumstances linked to it might void the term of any true meaning. We are interested in exploring such questions within the piece.
