CCMedia Community Summer Playlist by Mr. Lee

A creative community playlist for the summertime. CCMedia is an after school creative expression program. Music has a lot of power to connect and communicate new ideas and inspiring messages. As this playlist is open to all ages, music that may be questionable for an age appropriate audience may not be approved. So no cursing in the tunes. The 'Subject' of your post should include your title inside of parenthesis like this: ((Song Title)) and by artist/group name. Please include a link to YouTube videos ONLY as not all have access to Spotify or other streaming platforms. In your message write about why you selected the song, or share your thoughts on a lyric with a quote to the lyric, or share other information that you might find researching the artist/group. Comments are not available, but you may "Like" a track or comment about another track within your own posts as well! Thank you for visiting the CCMedia Community Summer Playlist!

Here's a track to set off the summer in the city of the sun. Please note, this playlist is open to all music, so feel very free to share! I chose this song, as I feel Oddisee has always been a reliable go to in so far as capturing the feeling of the seasons. He's one of if not my favorite Hip Hop artist out of the DMV area, the area that includes Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Over a decade and some years ago, Oddisee visited Las Cruces to perform at an outdoor stage on the New Mexico State University campus. Some friends recorded video of Oddisee and friends dropping by a local restaurant to enjoy fish tacos.

Cemetery Drive was originally on My Chemical Romance's Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge album, released in 2004. However, they came out with a deluxe edition of that album this week and it had all of the 2025 versions of the songs on that album AND some live recordings from 2005. This was, as the title of the song suggests, one of the 2025 versions.

Cemetery Drive has always been one of my favorites, this one and You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison are my favorites on Three Cheers. I was ecstatic when I found out they were releasing a new-ish album this year, I've been waiting for it since they announced it!

As soon as I got home from school on Friday I listened to the entire album, all 17 songs. The quality is so much better and I noticed that the bass was a lot more audible a lot of the time which made me very happy. A lot of artists I like have released new things this year, I really thing it's a great year for music!

This is my first post on this playlist, hopefully of many. I wanted to add this song first since it's still so new, I'll probably end up adding a bunch more from the deluxe edition of Three Cheers throughout the summer.

Posted by Luna!! >_<

Summertime was on My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys album, released on November of 2010. It was their fourth studio album.

This song actually started just with a riff that Mikey, the bassist, had come up with. This made me happy, because it's one of my favorite songs on one of my favorite albums, and Mikey is my favorite member of MCR! I think he did great with the bass for this song, I hope to learn it on my own bass soon.

The lyrics for this song are actually super sweet too, they, though not 100% confirmed, were written by Gerard (the lead singer) about his wife, Lyn-Z. If this is true, I really think it's a nice song and a really beautiful one too.

I wanted to add this song to this summer playlist because I think it would fit, with the title and all. I was going to add it to the playlist that was ongoing during school, but I decided to save it for the summer, since it's called Summertime and all. I think it's a great summer song (lots of repetition of the word 'summer', my apologies) and I think it's super underrated!

Posted by Luna!! :D

"Fancy that!" is a mixtape created by PinkPantheress that provides very fun 'club' music that still compliments her sound. This is her most recent project as it was released May 9 of this year (2025).

PinkPantheress is a huge inspiration to this generation for music. Her upbeat jungle samples and dance/electronic tracks brings out nostalgia. She really succeeds in creating music for everyone to enjoy, especially with how short her songs are.

Many of her songs channel an early 2000s vibe, which is what she usually goes for. Her earlier tracks and projects are way shorter in this mixtape. Many people would talk about how much they wanted her songs to be longer because of how catchy and vibey they are. However, in multiple interviews, PinkPantheress has stated how she doesn't like to add to much to the song because she feels it takes away from her sound and it can be unnecessary.

After her statement, she faced backlash over such little thing. In her response, she created this mixtape, laughing while saying "It's 20 minutes long, y'all can't be mad!" in a way to imply that she does not care.

Dylan Koch

This track is from A Moon Shaped Pool, by Radiohead. This albums track list contains themes of suspicion, paranoia, and duplicity. These themes CONSTANTLY attract my attention because as a learning music producer, I LOVE to include eerie tracks and ideas throughout my compositions.

Radiohead named this song for a counting rhyme named "Tinker Tailor" It's almost like Eeny Meeny Miny Moe, except with the words on the title instead. This was also used as the title of a Spy Novel from 1974, named Tinker, Tailor, Solder, Spy.

My interpretation of this song is about the internal conflicts and repressed fears, along with having to confront it. To find freedom and liberation from the darkness while fighting through the obstacles of the path you're taking.

Dylan Koch

((Seasons)) by Blu & Exile

One of my favorite duos to listen to during the summer is Blu & Exile. They hail out of the West coast Hip Hop scene, Los Angeles to be exact. Los Angeles has a deep history AND presence in the Hip Hop scene with a variety of groups that represent a variety of styles. I like to refer to a certain segment of Hip Hop's West Coast as the WestCoastWildStyle, a nod to the legendary Wildstyle film that inspired and ushered in a special time in Hip Hop's infancy in the East Coast side of the United States. Exile produces a number of records including his own instrumental tracks, but it's his work with Blu that has really defined his discography and placed him amongst the greats, with albums that I'd consider "classic" Hip Hop records. I first heard about this group when I was a college radio dj. As a radio dj, we'd receive an abundance of music at the radio station. For a music fan, you're literally in audio heaven, every week having the chance to go through and listen to albums that are sent to the radio station from everywhere. This was before the digital streaming world really started to take shape, so there were a lot of CDs and vinyl being mailed out to college radio stations. The college radio station network is much different from the mainstream radio world since college radio is far more independent and when you have a show, you can pretty much craft and broadcast what you'd like. I use to love to prepare my show the days before, thinking about which songs would go into which. And for almost a decade, I documented every playlist and also recorded many of my shows on tape. I documented the playlist because when an artist would find it on the internet, they'd send more music and even offer access to their artist for me to interview them. I would've loved to have interviewed Blu and Exile!!

Just want to send a shout out to the AMAZING songs that have been shared so far. I love that Mimi has entered into the playlist with her K-pop recommendations and that we also have the return of ph0b1A, our Beat Maker of the Year from 2022!! I'm going to have to post up some original beats from ph0b1A as my recommendations. And then of course Luna kicking it off with rich background on her amazing music tracks that also connect to her learning of the bass. Just between y'all, this summer playlist is sure to pack a lot of incredible recommendations. I'm hoping superkpoppie finds her way to the playlist to connect with Mimi and I have a few more shout outs to send to a few music aficionados that have graced our playlists from the past. Please feel free to share the link with anyone else that you feel would contribute to the summer playlist (Luna, tell Shyla!). Thank you for posting Pumas and past time Cobras! In future posts, I'd like to share posts to your specific songs you've shared to connect ideas, themes, genres and stories. So far, I've enjoyed listening to them all and revisiting them to share for club updates and reflections online.

Take On Me is a song by Reel Big Fish that was released in 1998.

This song, and band, have also been shown to me by my mom! This band is an alternative band, specifically Ska. Ska is one of my mom's all time favorite genres, which is really cool because I think that Ska is awesome!

In fact, my mom said that when she was in High School, she learned how to play trombone since she wanted to start a Ska band. However, sadly, nobody wanted to start a Ska band with her- Maybe if she picks up trombone again I could play bass for her!

I didn't add this song for any particular reason but I think it's really silly, the music video, the song, and the band as a whole. Most Ska I've heard isn't all that serious, except for maybe No Doubt. I think that's one of Ska's charms though, the instrumentals are always fun and upbeat and most of the time the lyrics are too. Especially with Reel Big Fish, their name is quite literally a pun itself!

Reel Big Fish is a great band, if you want to listen to more of their songs you definitely should! Ska is such a great genre, and, to me, is just fun to listen to.

Posted by Luna!! :3

Oh wow, I definitely got a follow up for the Reel Big Fish song. Very cool connection to your mom's story Luna!

This one is the original and until now, I really didn't know much about the song other than it was a huge hit at the time. I read that a version of it was written by one of the members in the band when they were just a teenager, but it failed miserably a couple of times before becoming a chart topping hit. It was actually this music video which took it to new heights and the popularity of MTV which helped them get a bit more traction in the United States pop world. But before that, they have a number of other versions that kept falling flat in the UK.

The video was a first of its kind and I read that it took a really long time to make. They incorporated "rotoscoping animation" that involves pencil-sketching and live-action mix. Maybe researching rotoscoping will help give more background on how that worked, but in the 80s, they were trying all kinds of new things now that the music videos started to get bigger budgets and became a bigger form of entertainment and promotion for music.

This song is actually one of the tracks I have on the soundtrack of my life. Though I can't remember much, I do feel like I brought back some kind of feeling or sound during my time in Europe when my Dad was stationed in Germany. I can't recall exactly, but there are just a bunch of tunes that I think about when I think about our time in what my mother would refer to in Spanish as Alemania. Even just watching the video by Reel Big Fish instantly took me back and inspired me to try to find out more about a song that literally lives in my daily conscious memory.

Shout out to the children of the 80s! Stay cool out there y'all.

This is the last song I will be adding to this playlist! I think it fits, it's, summer-y, it's the only song I could think of to end off the summer playlist.

This song is even better now, because, I saw the Violent Femmes live with My Chemical Romance (Violent Femmes were the openers) on 7/11/25! I'm so happy I got to see them.

They did play this song, too, and it was SUPER awesome to see. My mom was also extremely excited to see them live, as Violent Femmes is one of her favorite bands. It was such an amazing experience honestly.

This is also one of the first songs that I heard by Violent Femmes, again, because of my mom. So, I've known about them for a while now.

This writing was a little choppier than usual but it's my first time posting since near the beginning of the summer, it'll get back to normal eventually! (This is my last post on this playlist, yes, but hopefully I'll be able to write more about more songs on future playlist.)

Posted by Luna!!:3

A summer classic you may have heard on a favorite movie with an even more interesting origin story. It was recorded by a band of young kids, one as young as 12. The members of the band: Ron Wilson (drums), Jim Fuller (lead guitar), Bob Berryhill (rhythm guitar), Pat Conolly (bass player), Jim Pash (sax player) <--- the 12 year old. The song hit the airwaves in 1963, February and hit #1 in Los Angeles. The group formed in Glendora, California in 1962 and the song hit the Billboard Hot 100 at no. 2 in 1963 behind Stevie Wonder's ((Fingertips, Pt. 2)). I gathered this info from a quick Google search and have known of this song for quite some time since I was a kid from the film The Sandlot. I asked my father about the song and if he remembers when he first heard it back then. My father grew up playing in a band with friends as a teen, they were called the Imitations. And like their name, my Dad would play ((Wipe Out)) on the drums. I learned that the song became one of those that even some school music programs would assign to students. While it's not on time for when summer started, here's to enjoying the remaining days of such a fast summer break!
