The civil rights sit in movement was a civil rights protest executed non-violently through the simple disruption of everyday life. The participants would take a seat at a whites only lunch counter and would ask for a basic item like coffee, and they would then wait to be served. That was it, simple, but extremely effective. The protesters faced taunts and aggression and answered it with peace and patience. this practice originated in Greensboro North Carolina and spread like wildfire.
