Eddie was talking about how he remembers their names but he doesn't really remember them. They say "war could bond men like a magnet, but like a magnet it could repel them too." This is important because in the war being with men all day everyday for a while can bond men so well and make them very close. As it could bond men it could also make them hate each other from being around each other constantly. That shows how the war was going and how it was for men in the war or how it was for Eddie in the war.

Eddies dad came into the front door and he saw what was going on, Eddie's dad ran into the room and yelled at him. This defielty made some tension bwtween Mickey and Eddie's dad. This is important to the story because this is one of the reasons why Eddie's dad was the way that he was, which is no excuse for his actions but its just explaining why he is the way he is.

This part of the book is so important because it connects back to the blue mans lesson about how everything and everyone is connected, this is because nicky was the one who's keys cut the cable to the cart that killed Eddie. Nicky is also Rubys (the third person) great grandson.
