About Hannah Senesh

Hannah Senesh was a paratrooper trained to rescue Jews during the Holocaust. She did this between the years of 1943-1945. She was captured, beaten and eventually killed by the Nazis. In mid-March 1944 she and several other Palestinian-Jewish volunteers (most of whom were also of European origin) were dropped into Yugoslavia to aid the anti-Nazi forces until they would be able to commence their true mission and enter Hungary.

Hannah was helping to rescue Jews during the Holocaust, which ended up getting her killed because of her resistance. Her poems were very famous because of her unfortunate death. Other women were active in the aid and rescue operations of the Jews in German-occupied Europe. Among them were Jewish parachutist Hannah Senesh and Zionist activist Gisi Fleischmann. Senesh parachuted into Hungary in 1944. Women played an important role in various resistance activities. This was especially the case for women who were involved in Socialist, Communist, or Zionist youth movements.

Hannah's lasting Impact

Hannah Senesh was able to save Jews and help them form a normal life again. When Hannah was captured and tortured for information she refused to help the Natzis, which ended with her death. This made people respect her, and she now has a lasting impact and is concerned to be a hero in Israel.

Hannah had made a poem “Walking to Caesarea” that was written in Hebrew. Later turned into a song (Eil, Eil) that was about despair while being crucified for her faith as a jew. She had made lots of poems about her experience, but this one was the most popular, that's why it was turned into a song.

Third Decree of the General Governor's concerning the residential restrictions in the General Government of 10/15/1941 (VBL; abbreviation for Verordnungsblatt Generalgouvernement, p. 595) not only Jews who have left their designated residential area will be punished with death, but the same penalty applies to anyone who knowingly provides refuge to such Jews. This includes not only providing a night's lodging and food, but also any other aid, such as transporting them in vehicles of any sort, through the purchase of Jewish valuables, etc.

In Hannah’s paratrooper group, there were 3 women and 29 men who volunteered to help save Jews along with herself.

The Us, British, Soviet, and Canadian troops encountered the camps and sites where Nazi crimes had taken place. The Allied soldiers liberated sick and starving camp prisoners. Then provided them with food, water, and medical aid.

Hannah Senesh crossed the Hungarian border in hopes to save her mom from the concentration camps, and even though she failed, it gave Jews hope.
