The Harlem Renaissance was started by a couple of people named Jean Toomer, Langston Hughes, Rudolf Fisher, Wallace Thurman, Jessie Redmon. As the years went by, The Harlem Renaissance grew popular until the Stock Market crashed in 1929. After the market crashed, the renaissance faded away. It was a way for the african american community to express themselves artistically, musically, and and poetically. The Harlem Renaissance was given this name because it was the end of WWI and through the middle of the
depression in the 1930s

It ran 474 performances on Broadway and spawned three touring companies.perhaps its greatest impact was to reinforce race pride among blacks. It involved racial pride, fueled in part by the militancy of the "New Negro" demanding civil and political rights.

Instead, white supremacy was quickly, legally, and violently restored to the New South, where ninety percent of African Americans lived.
