This shows the common fight between evil and innocence, however he remains innoccent even though he is the only person on the island that actually "talks" to the lord of the flies.

In a way it is similar to mixing paint. If you start out with white and add black, it takes more black paint for it to become black than if you started with another color. If the other boys represent different colors, then they can mix together to create the evil, where as white lightens the other colors and is harder to corrupt.

-Hayden Corbin
-Quote; "The fire’s the most important thing. WITHOUT THE FIRE we can’t be rescued. I’d like to put on war-paint and be a savage. But we must keep the fire burning. The fire’s the most important thing on the island, because, because—"
In the book, Ralph fears the dark. He relies on fire (light) to keep him and the others through the night. When they have no fire through the night, he starts to despair about their situation and starts to lose hope and drive to keep going.
In addition, Ralph is overall ignorant of the power that Jack holds. He neglects Jack and lets him do his own thing, to the peril of Simon and Piggy. Because of this, some could say that Ralph is responsible for the deaths of Simon and Piggy for being ignorant of Jack. However, they are just kids, and Ralph was doing his best to take care of the littluns.

Character: Roger
Archetype: Black/Ice/Red
Explanation: The reason why Roger exemplifies a red archetype is because the color red is symbolic of blood and passion which Roger illustrates. He kills for the fun of it and is always wanting to attack innocent things. Also, Roger is attached to the color black because he can be compared to the devil since he is simply evil. The ice as well can exemplify his ignorance because he seems to be in his own world when being told what to do.

Wilderness: Roger
Textual Quote: "Ralph too was fighting to get near, to get a handful of the brown, vulnerable flesh" (Golding 115).
Explanation: Roger was acting as the boar during the mock hunt. His health and life was at risk during this hunt. As the savagery of the boys began to uproot and take hold of each individual, the amount of danger in which Roger was in increased. Thus, the boys hunting Roger represent danger, and Roger is in danger.
