"Tell your mom and sister not to pay any attention to Andrew being a suspect in Maggie's murder. That'll be all cleared up before Andrew's in the Ground".
Nils witnessed the murder of Andrew Fine their lead suspect in Maggie's murder but Andrew was also Stevey Nils childhood friends brother. This answer my annotation question because of the news claiming Andrew to be the killer caused a lot of emotional pain to Stevey not only to losing his brother but for him to be further more accused of a murder he didn't commit. With Nils helping investigate the case it could affect their relationship in the future and maybe how they view each other.

The book is in first person so Nils is our narrator throughout the whole book. It may have something to do with Nils being an PI but when ever we meet new people or are introduced to a new scene we are given very vivid and descriptive details about the scene and the people in it making him in my opinion a good narrator. In the book there are more "Window" scenes because of Nils work, age, and place that he lives in he experiences things I never have before.

I think the authors choices in this book are very good. The way he introduces the characters through Nils eyes gives us a very detailed description of a new character with out the need of going into the third person and it makes sense for Nils to pay attention to these details due to his job. The way he created suspense with revealing the killers name even though our main character knew it he waited 5 chapters until revealing it to us. Our author uses very good dialog and figurative language and we don't have any flashbacks throughout the book.

She had lost two loves. Yet, a few month later, there in the produce, she had looked like she lost two captors." This scene answers my annotation question because we learn how Beth: a woman in love with Maggie and the wife of Maggie's murderer is happy and is moving on in her life. This wouldn't have happened if Nils decided to leave the case and find the real murder. She would have lost her true love and ended up living her days as the wife of Maggie's murder.

" Suddenly, a frantic inner warning clawed at me, a bubble that formed in my heart and made my chest ache. This was Arcus. Arcus"

This answers my annotation question because it shows how even though she was losing control of herself to the Minax she realized that she was hurting Arcus. This helps show us how close they are for her to realize her mistake and regain her control over herself and defeat the Minax and Rasmus.

The author in this book in my opinion has created really good suspense. For example we were gradually shown Arcus's face behind his mask and hood to find that he has burn marks making Ruby think he was one of the soldiers that attacked her village. It was later revealed that a Fireblood assassin was responsible and that he was a Frostblood prince. I also enjoy looking at the dialog she uses coming up with threats or name calling for Fire or Frostbloods.

In this book Ruby runs away on horseback from the Abbey. I can't relate to this since I have never ran away or snuck out of the house. I learn about how even though she had a limited time schedule she made sure to pack the necessaries for her journey such as medicines and food.

Ruby was born into a world in the mist of a War. She had to hide who she was to keep herself and those she cared about safe from the wrath of the Frostblood king. I can't relate to this since I have never lived through a war and never had to hide my identity to others for my or those around me's safety.
