First of all, people themselves do not feel the pain, so if they do not care about other people's pain, they continue the test. Another reason people continue the test is because the surrounding looks like real and strict, so their mind is controlled to continue the test. A third reason people continue the test is because the professor said the test is not harmful, so people think it is harmless, then they can continue without caring about other people. Finally, people only can hear the painful vice, so it is difficult to know how much people are hurt. If people can see the face and some actions, perhaps, the decision whether they continue or not might be changed.
