Some school districts are already giving all of their students Laptops for various reasons. In fact, by 2032 I believe that in about 75% of school districts, having a Laptop / iPad will be a requirement. Additionally, some schools may offer fully online zoom classes for all of the core subjects and some electives. This allows some students to not even go to a school building and still get an education. I do not believe that this will be a popular option, but will have enough students to run one or two instances of each core subject. I also predict that more and more young adults will continue onto higher education and the college dropout rate will steadily decrease. Something already common to be seen is the use of laptops, tablets, or other smart devices in the classroom. Right now, there is still a mix of classes that pen and paper still rules, however i see that changing over the coming years. Initiatives are already underway to provide each student with his or her own smart device, not just for use in the classroom but also at home, and eventually this is what will be solely used. Just like stone tablets turned to paper, the paper will turn to a screen. During the start of the pandemic, i feel this process was expedited, for example the school district my uncle is a principal in started distributing tablets to all of their students, rather than just the grades that currently used them. With the added importance and use of technology in the classroom, it will lead to changing class structures. A hybrid model may become a new possibility with students sick at home now still being able to attend class through zoom. I think things like sick days, and unfortunately snow days too, may begin to phase out as even a teacher will be able to teach to a classroom from their own home if they are sick. While looking through when things were developed, it is clear that within the past 100 years technology has helped advanced the classroom settings. Using things like iPads and computers in the classroom was something that was not used majority of the time. However, when the recent pandemic occurred, technology showed schools all over the world how useful they could be. In the upcoming years, I think remote learning for students will continue to stay popular. In universities and schools, they are now able to hire more qualified professors who can share their knowledge through a screen if they can not make the move to teach in person. Along with the possibility of more qualified professors, the amount of resources we are using will also go down a significant amount. Since the world was shut down and schools were no longer open, teachers turned to online schooling in order to educate their students. This was very new to many, including myself. I know that a lot of people prefer online schooling over the traditional way. However, I know that despite the advantages online teaching has, there are many downsides, including lack of focus from students, cheating, and distractions since learning from home. I believe that hybrid/online learning will follow us into the next decade, making it the a very popular option of schooling. In addition, I believe that the students studying to become teachers now will have a very different style than the teachers they grew up with. I know personally that I want to change the way of teaching, and make sure that I am not similar to how some of my teachers used to be. I think that teachers in the next decade will be much more lenient, making school a safe place for students, not a stressful place that they dread. I also think that in the next decade the curriculum will change dramatically. I believe that schools will include courses about important life skills students will need as adults, such as mock job interviews, how to write a check, how to do laundry, etc. I think these skills are very important to know and should be taught in school as opposed to some math subjects that will never be used again. In addition to the Covid-19 Pandemic promoting the use of online school, it has also caused a rise in anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. I hope that in the next decade school will put more emphasis on mental health awareness and offer more resources to students, reinforcing the fact that there is nothing wrong with needing help. I know in the next decade the teachers will be more understanding, willing to help, accepting, and be seen as a friend to their students. I hope that in the next decade school is seen by all students as a great place that they can go to to learn at their own pace and ask the teacher for help if needed. I think working asynchronously is a great teaching strategy since every student learns at a different pace. I also believe that testing will be gone in the next decade of teaching since it only causes more stress and anxiety to students, especially if they are already struggling. With new technology, there will be new ways of structuring a classroom. However, I also feel that the academic pressure that students feel about school will lessen in the next decade. As society advances there is a greater emphasis on mental health awareness and the impact that pressure and stress from school have on students. Teachers will focus more on teaching students in a way that is fun, relaxed, and enjoyable, compared to a high-stress situation where students are forced to memorize and testify their knowledge. We believe that there has been a large amount of progressiveness when it comes to the acceptance of minorities in educational institutions. Nonetheless, society has a long way to go. The Brown versus The Board of Education Supreme Court decision of 1954 has helped this issue to move forward, but we believe that future teachers who are aware of social, political, and economic issues will help facilitate more change to social justice issues such as these. Something that I found interesting in today's class was that in 2011, the majority of babies being born in the US were reported as non-white minorities. This means that within the coming years, these babies will make up the MAJORITY of children within the US! Over the last few decades the number of caucasian students within schools has been dropping, just as the numbers of African American, Hispanic, Asian American, and Mixed Races have been rising. This means that schools are beginning to include children of different ethnicities, backgrounds, and cultures. I also found it shocking that in 2021, there are still a handful of schools in New York State that have received backlash for problems surrounding their outdated, segregated protocols. It is clear that we still have a long way to go and a lot of progress to achieve, before schools become totally inclusive to students of all backgrounds and ethnicities.
