Liesel Meminger yelling at Ilsa Hermann for firing Rosa Hubermann - Damaging (262)
"The injury of words... ' It's about time' she informed her, 'that you did your own stinking washing anyway. It's about time you faced the fact that your son is dead. He got killed. He got strangled and cut up more than twenty years ago! Or did he freeze to death? Either way, he's dead! He's dead and it's pathetic that you sit here shivering in your own house to suffer for it. You think you're the only one?'"

Liesel uses her words to disparage Ilsa for mourning her dead son, Johannes. She is her mother's last client, perceived to be fairly rich, and no longer wants their services.
Liesel knows that if she brings up Ilsa's dead son, it would hurt Ilsa like how Liesel hurts at that moment.

"Heil Hitler" - Enlightenment as well as damaging (182)
This phrase is said many times throughout the novel, and is a message that both uplifts, and tears down the spirits of people. This phrase will uplift the Nazis, and others who support Hitler since this is his salute. It signifies the praisal, and celebration of his nature. However, if you are Jewish, or don't support him, it likely strikes fear into your heart, and damages your spirit. I think that this phrase is very useful because it goes both ways in the way that it can both uplift others, and damage others simultaneously.

Rosa Hubermann Comes to School - Enlightenment and damaging (332)
"The tirade went on for perhaps another minute, with Liesel making a desperate suggestion or two about the possible location of the said brush. It ended abruptly."

This illustrates how (through Rosa informing Liesel that Max has awoken) information can be enlightening, as well as damaging. Had Liesel not known that Max had awoken, she likely would still be miserable. But as inferred in her dream, she would have accepted Max's death because it would have ended his suffering.
