The first book I read this year was Wonder, written by R.J. Palacio. The plot is about a boy with facial deformities that has just started school and is facing ups and downs throughout his 5th grade school year, he ends with him proving he's like everyone else and makes a lot of friends during his school year. The problem is he is being made fun of because of his face, the solution is through love and kindness and through other people and certain events his problems stop and become better. I would rate it 5 stars.

The second book I've read was a book called The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, written by Kate Dicamillo. In the book Edward Tulane, (a china rabbit,) is thrown overboard and goes on a crazy adventure, meeting many new people and loving them but sadly being took by another person he was bound to love. His problem is he wants to get home, his solution was after many years of waiting he finally finds his original owner again, and for the book project I did on this book I just summarized the plot by telling my class the people that kept Edward Tulane for a certain amount of time. For my rating on this book it would be a 4 star rating.

The third book I've read this school year is a book named Schooled, which was written by Gordon Korman. In the book a 8th grade boy named Capricorn Anderson is a hippie with his grandma and has been homeschooled his entire life but after she breaks her leg he has to go to a real school, where he is made fun of for his odd looks in clothing, his problem is he's made fun of because he's a hippie, his solution is after he was put into the ballot to be a great president by his bully it actually turned out to be a good experience for him. I would rate this book a 5 star rating.

The 4th book I've read this school year is a book named Chasing Lincoln's Killer, which was written by James L. Swanson. The book talks about Lincoln's assassinater, John Wilkes Booth and the routes he took and what happened during the time when he was considered a criminal, America's problem was the man that killed Abraham Lincoln was on the loose, their solution was find him and kill him. I did do a book project on this book, I talked about Ford's Theater with my friend Andrew because that's were Lincoln was lassassinated. I'd have to give this book a four star rating.

The 5th book I read was the Only Game by Mike Lupica, in the book, Jack is the best 7th grade baseball player in his baseball loving town, Jack quits baseball later in the book because it reminds of his teenage brother, who died in an accident not long before. His best friend named Gus, stops being friends with him because he's mad at him for quitting baseball, later Jack befriends Cassie, the best 7th grade softball player, and Teddy an overweight boy who is made fun of for his weight. Jack starts playing baseball again and him and Gus become friends again and he wins the championship game with his team. The problem is Jack quits baseball and the solution is he starts playing again and wins the championship with his team. I would give this book a 4 star rating.

The next book I read was called Holes by Louis Sachar. Holes focuses around 14 year old Stanley Yelnats who was mistakened to have stole a pair of sneakers from a baseball player because of his bad luck, he is sent to Camp Green Lake where male juveniles are forced to dig holes to find old treasure for the Warden, who runs the camp, Zero, Stanley's new friend that he met there, flees. He finds him and they go back to camp, where they find the treasure and Stanley and Zero are found not guilty and taken home and get rich off there treasure and Stanley's father new invention "Sploosh," and Zero hires investigators and finds his mom. The problem is Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake even though he's innocent, his solution is he is later found innocent and gets rich off the treasure he found. I would give this book a 5 star rating.

Next was a book called Out of my Mind, which was by Sharon M. Draper. The story focuses on 10 year old Melody Brooks, who has a disability which prevents her from moving , her school starts inclusion classes for the special needs, where they let the special needs go to a few average kids classes. Melody is extremely smart, so she joins Biz Wiz, a country wide program for smart kids. Her team makes it to finals, sadly her group leaves her behind because of her disability, (they didn't win.) Her parents and Melody gets mad at her team and coach for leaving her behind, and that's really it. The problem is she is left behind and made fun of, her solution is to prove to everyone that she's very smart. My book project on this book was for Shark Tank, and Jack and I made a iPad case that holds your iPad for you because she can't hold anything. Finally I would give this book a 3.5 star rating mostly for its terrible ending.

Next was Indian Captive which was written by Lois Lenski, the story follows 12 year old Molly, who's house is invaded by Native Americans, they kill her almost her entire family....except for her. She is then traded to the Senecas and is named Corn Tassel, she goes through ups and downs throughout her story, then she is offered the chance to go back to white people, she says no and is then named, Little Woman of Great Courage. The problem in this book is Molly wants to go home, the problem is through the Senecas showing her nature and kindness she stays and lives a good life. I would rate this book 3 stars.

Coming up is The Giver, by Lois Lowry, main character is 12 year old Jonas, he lives in a village where there is no color, very dark secrets of the past and present, and the leaders of the village choose your job for you when your turn 12. His selected job is being The Giver, Jonas meets the current Giver, the way his job works is he lays down and The Giver will put his hands on his back to give him a memory's of the villages past that the leaders of the village don't want to people to find. Jonas finds out that when there village lets someone go anywhere other than the village, (release,) they actually kill them, Jonas then finds that The Giver had a daughter that applied for release. Jonas decideds to flee the village after finding out it's very dark secrets, the book ends with Jonas sledding to somewhere with Gabe, a boy that they adopted for a bit, but was about to get killed. Jonas' problem is he needs to carry the dreams as a heavy burden, his solution is flee the village to find a better life. I would give this book a 5 star rating.

The 10th book I've read was Gathering Blue, by Lois Lowry, (also this book is part of The Giver Quartet.) For this book we have a new main character, Kira, (she didn't grow up in the same village as Jonas,) also she has a friend named Matt. Kira's father died before she was born so she lives only with her mother, to make matters worst one of Kira's legs is twisted, her mother dies when she's 11-12, a court trial is then held to determine whether she will stay or
not. They decide she will stay and help sew The Singer's Robe, which is a robe that someone wears while they sing the history of the village, she meets Thomas the Wood Carver, who carves The Singer's Staff. They become friends, they later find of a little girl that lives below them and is forced to sing because one day she will be The Singer, Matt flees from the village and comes back with Kira's father, which actually isn't dead, but is blind. He also comes back with the color blue, which is very rare in her village, he offers to take her with him but she says no because she wants to stay and "change" the village, Matt also goes with Kira's father to live with him. The problem is that Kira is sad because her parents are supposedly dead, her solution is finding out her father is not dead, finally I would give this book a 5 star rating.

The last book I finished reading during the first semester was the third book in the Giver quartet, Messenger, by yet again, Lois Lowry. This book focuses on 14-16 year old Matt, (now Matty,) as he lives his new life in the same village Kira's father lives, Matty finds out he has magical healing powers right as the village starts changing in a negative way, also Matty has kind of a way with nature and is usually the one to be chosen to go through Forest to deliver things. The Trade Mart is held and people trade for dangerous things in return, later a court is held to decide whether the village will close its borders on not, they decide to close the villages border to stop people from coming in to the village, then Seer, (Kira's father,) realizes that his daughter needs to come to the village soon because they close there borders soon. Matty is summoned by Leader, (which actually is Jonas and can also see "beyond",) to get the word out that the village will not be letting people in, he tells Leader that he is going to get Seer's daughter, he approves, right before Matty leaves a girl Matty likes kisses him. Matty goes to notify the other villages and on the way gets Kira to go to his village with him, but for the first time ever the Forest is hurting him, (it does to most other people so that's why he delivers so many things,) using his seeing beyond abilitie he finds that Matty and Kira are and great pain and he goes out to find them. He does, but sadly Matty, Kira, and Leader are to tired to go any farther, all of the sudden Matty puts his hands on the floor of the Forest and uses his healing ability to heal the village of its greediness, Kira and Leader, and heal the Forest, sadly he faints/dies, it never specifies. The book ends with Leader carry Matty out of the Forest, the problem is that the village is becoming very greedy, Matty, Kira, and Leader are all very weak, and there is something wrong with the Forest, the solution is Matty uses his healing ability and heals everything. Last but not least, I would rate this book a 5 star rating.

Thanks for reading my 20 Book Challenge so far, and bye!

The books I've read so far-
