This story was rather strange as it entailed a major plot twist at the end. Additionally, it seemed that the only action that took place in the book happened at the beginning and end. In the middle of the book it was just reflection upon her husband's life and how her life is now effected. After reading this I was curious as to why the wife died at the end. My only thought is that she had such an emotion swing that she killed herself and now her husband, Brently, will be going through the same reflection she had been through the story. Additionally, the image below helps to further support my idea that because of her sudden change in mood, she died as a result. This could be possible as Mrs. Mallard was clearly depressed through the entirety of the story and the sudden surprise could have caused her heat to jump with joy as the doctor's said she "died of heart disease -- of joy that kills" . Lastly, I believe this picture shows Mrs. Mallard's sudden change of mood greatly and is the reason she has died.

This story was very interesting as it was one very long sentence of instructions until the end in which the girl interrupted to ask a pointless question. The question the girl asked was pointless as it became obsolete if the girl were to follow all the other instructions she was given. This story appeared to just be a list of how to become proper woman from a young girl. After reading this, I was left wondering why was this a story in the first place? I ended up coming to the conclusion that the girl has not been acting very lady like and is therefore getting a lesson from an elder. Additionally, the picture below helps to further explain my idea that the girl has got into some trouble and is now getting a lesson. Her teach is clearly an elder with experience and is relatively close to the girl as the instructor comments about the girls past occasionally. This could possibly be the mother to the girl as mother's are know to go on rants like this story in an attempt to help their child. In conclusion, I believe this was a mother and daughter conversation of how the daughter needs to act in order to grow up properly.

As the play began it seemed like a very mysterious crime investigation. The sheriff and the attorney walked around the house in search of a motive for the crime while the two women waited in the main part of the house. During this time, the women found the evidence that could lead to the motive of Mrs. Wright to murder her husband John. The ladies then hid the evidence in order to save Mrs. Wright from the punishment the crime would entail. As the men were too trusting of the women, they would not question the women for any possible evidence. This now leaves me questioning the two women and their reason to hid the evidence of the dead bird and the messy part of the quilt. I believe they were trying to save Mrs. Wright from the law as she was once a friend of one of the women. Additionally, the picture below shows that women are sneaky and cannot be so easily trusted as they are just as liable as men to hid evidence or commit a crime. This also helps to further the idea that they want to protect Mrs. Wright from any punishment as friends will do anything for each other and they always have each others back.

This short story is almost the exact same as the play "Trifles". The main differences I found in the story was the development of characters, and the point of view in which the story is told. Other than that, the story had the same plot and setting. Nothing was made different, the same evidence was used in the story as the play. In conclusion, this story was the short story version of the play "Trifles".

As this short story began, I knew it was going to be a mysterious and odd story. The woman in the story in battling depression and is currently living in a mansion her husband has rented. Her husband is the doctor that is treating her and he believes she just needs rest and time. The woman on the other hand thinks she needs to be doing some thing so she takes up writing her journal. Through the story, the woman constantly comments on the mansion and how it looks. She then talks about the wallpaper and how mysterious it appears. After searching the wallpaper for a meaning, she finds that is appears someone is trapper in the wallpaper. She is now clearly insane believing that someone is trapped in the wallpaper. I believe this is a reflection of her self and being trapped inside the mansion. So, the woman decides to tear down the wallpaper to let the person out from it. After this, her husband comes in and faints as he notices she has gone from depressed to insane.

As this poem begins, readers notice that it is written by Langston Hughes, a famous Harlem Renaissance writer. In this poem, Hughes talks in the first person when talking about the history of blacks through slavery. Though in his writing he is using, "I", he is not actually talking about himself. Rather, Hughes is talking about all blacks in general and how things have not changed for the better for blacks. Lastly, Hughes use of Literary elements can be found to help further his ideas. For example, he used narration and setting to show that blacks have been treated badly throughout recorded history. In conclusion, this poem was a reflection of blacks through history.

In this poem, Langston Hughes writes about freedom in America. Through this poem and as it begins, Hughes talks about the blacks and the outcasts in America. As a result, he shows that freedom and equality in America is a lie for them. Additionally, Hughes shows all the hardships they have gone through and yet are still not treated the same as whites. Lastly, Hughes uses literary elements to further his point that they are not being treated fairly. For example, his use of narration and language in this poem illustrates the idea that equality and freedom is not a thing for the outcasts like themselves. In conclusion, Hughes wrote this poem to show that America may be called the land of the free but it is not for the outsiders like himself.

This short story began with the death of a black boy's grandfather. His grandfather's dying words seemed to have cursed the boy from then on to live like a traitor and spy as his grandfather had. After that, the boy carried on until he had to give his graduation speech to some adults in a shady room. In this room, the narrator and other boys gathered and fought in a boxing ring blind folded. After the fighting, the boys had to pick up money off of an electrified rug. Then after this, the narrator was allowed to give his speech to the adults. During his speech, he called for equality which did not get a good response from all the white adults in the crowd. Following his speech, he was awarded a new brief case and a scholarship to the black college. As a result, the boy felt as if he had broken the curse he had from his grandfather and he could finally move on in life. In conclusion, I believe this was a story about the struggles a black boy had gone through all his life but has now received an opportunity to move forward to something greater.

As this story begins, readers notice that one of the sisters, Maggie is much less fortunate than the other sister, Dee. The mother and Maggie are sitting in the front yard waiting for Dee's arrival to their home. As they wait for her arrival, the mother dreams that their reunion will be like that of a TV show. As the story goes on, readers notice that Dee has had a much easier life and has not had many challenges put in the way of her path. Because of this, Maggie is very jealous of her. Dee then arrives to the house with a man that goes by the name of Asalamalakim. Then readers find that Dee has changed her name to Wangero. I believe she changed her name out of shame towards her family. As the story continues to progress, Dee asks if she can have a few things from the house. Of these things, she wanted to take a churn top, a dasher, and two quilts. The mother then tells her the quilts were meant for Maggie but Dee refuses as she thinks Maggie will not take care of them.Maggie then comes inside and says Dee can have them, at this, the mother is not happy. The mother took the quilts from Dee and gave them to Maggie. I think she did this to teach her that you don't always get what you want, and the world does say no sometimes. In conclusion, Dee leaves upset with her family as she thinks they do not understand their African-American heritage.

This short story is about a few African-America children learning about things from their teacher, Miss Moore. As the story begins, I notice this story is taking place in the summer time as it is very hot and the children complain about being schooled in the summer. As the story goes on, the children learn about money as they take a trip with Miss Moore to a strip mall. As the kids walk around looking in the windows of the stores, they notice that the things for sale cost an absurd amount to their lifestyle. The children then question why they don't have the opportunity to live with an excessive amount of money. From this, the teacher doesn't know what to say as it is very hard for poor people to suddenly become wealthy. Because of this, I think Miss Moore was trying to teach the kids that they need to get educated so that they could afford nice things like they saw in the shops. Also, I think she was trying to teach the kids that if they want something nice, they need to save their money over time. In conclusion, this short story was about poor African-American children who are taught about money as a result of the social inequality.

This short story is about some African-American girls and their lifestyles at the time in which the story takes place. As the story begins, the girls are on some sort of girl scout camping trip. As I was reading this story, the major theme that popped out to me was the relation between blacks and whites. This is very apparent to be the theme as the narrator states that “We had all been taught that adulthood was full of sorrow and pain, taxes and bills, dreaded work and dealings with whites, sickness and death.” This quote really stood out to me as the saying is the death and taxes are a guarantee in life, but for African-Americans, the author points out that dreaded work and dealings with whites must be added to the list as well. As a result of this, I think this story is about the apparent racial inequality in society that can still be found today in some places.

As this play begins, the audience notices that one of the main characters, Willy, is chasing the American dream. As the play proceeded on, it becomes more apparent that Willy has failed to accomplish his goal of achieving the American dream. Because of this, he seems to lie to himself and make a fantasy world for himself to live in. It is almost as if he changes his views of anything so long as it fits his agenda. I believe he does this so he does not have to confront the truth that he has failed. The next act begins and Biff chooses to get a business loan. Because of this, Willy seems to get very excited and begins to talk about moving into the country. As a result of this, he begins to think about building things with his own hands. From this, the audience can notice that Willy is truely a craftsman that can work with his hands to build stuff or to work in garden. From this realization, I think Willy notices that he chose the wrong career and he should have done something he loved rather than chasing money. The story then continues on and Willy continues to realize his failures. From this, he begins to question his life and if he should have chased money like he did, or done something he would have loved. In conclusion, this play shows that you should do something you love and be happy, rather than to chase wealth and be unhappy. In the end, it is apparent that the American dream is no guarantee and that it takes some luck to make it big.

During this story I realized that each of the main characters carry an object from home or one that has been sent to them from home. Because of this, I believe the soldiers use these items to cope with the fear and stress that comes with a war. Additionally, the fear and emotional pain in this story can be identified as the major theme of the story. As the story goes on, I notice the characters develop as the cope with their fears.
