Don't Blink Song Lyrics

This song sings about a man talking about the secret to life and how fast it goes by that it can go by in a blink of an eye. This relates to the topic of mental-health and depression because often people feel that they have not filled their life to the fullest. He sings " next thing you know your better half of fifty years is there in bed and you're praying God takes you instead." I think this song is trying to be positive and trying to tell us to be positive about aging. The key to life is to take advantage of every moment and be happy with growing old because next thing you know, it's all over and people are filled with regret.

The Movie "Up"

In my opinion, the movie "Up" does a great job of portraying society's fear of growing old. This movie is about an old man who tries to isolate himself after the loss of his wife. However, in the end, he overcomes the fear of growing old and starts living in the present. He finds himself once again and the movie shows growing old can be positive. The industry feared that the movie would not be a success because it lacked connection with the target population. However, it was a huge hit and became a great success.

Dove 'Pro Age' Campaign Ad

This campaign is a great advertisement because this encourages aging. It starts off by showing actors that is considered by society to be "old" rather than the typical young actors that television usually show. They caption these actors "too old to be in an anti-aging ad" and then later say "this is not an anti-age, this is a pro age." This is a positive effect on society's views of aging because commercials and ads always feature beautiful, young models. However, this ad promotes that people age and that it is beautiful too.

Negative Stereotyping in the Story Books

This article talks about the classic story books such as "Cinderella," "Hansel and Gretel," and "Snow White" that everybody knows and enjoy. However, it portrays older characters very negatively. They are shown as wicked and evil, and are usually the villain. These negative stereotypes influence society especially children who are reading or watching these stories. To change these negative influences on society, the "wicked witch" or whatever villain should be anyone and not just targeted at elderly people. Being exposed at a young age to this stereotypes influence our society that older people are bitter, evil, and mean.

Anti-Aging Pill

This article talks about an anti-aging pill (NAD+) that supposedly is the closet they've gotten to the fountain of youth. This is a negative stereotype because this is promoting that people should be trying to stay youthful and have the fear getting old. This supplement is also unproven and we have no idea if it works. There is not enough research behind it and have only been tested on mice that have a different metabolism than people. But, people are desperately trying to stay young. However, our society should be promoting aging and encouraging it. Everybody gets old and there's no reason we should stop it.
