One Dead, 22 Injured After Car Strikes Pedestrians In New York's Times Square

1. On thursday, Richard Rojas killed 1 person and injured 22 others in New York, by plowing through a large crowd with his car. Witnesses said that he appeared drunk, he has been arrested. Among the people hurt, was his 13 year old sister.
2. I chose this because it was an interesting story, and it is not common that you see a car accident that occurs and harms that many people.
3. It doesn't really apply to any subjects we have covered in class. But it does relate to drunk driving, because though it has not yet been confirmed that he was drunk, witnesses said that. The laws regarding drunk driving need to be improved.
4. This is a credible source because it is BuzzFeed News, which is where many people get there news from.
5. Mary Ann Georgantopoulos, Tasneem Nashrulla, and David Mack, BuzzFeed News, May 18 2017, Times Square. https://www.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeednews/times-square-car?utm_term=.hygoJv6dLX#.xkGqY8JrXG

Trump Sends NAFTA Renegotiation Notice to Congress

The main point of this article is that on Thursday, the Trump administration gave congress official notice that it plans to renegotiate Nafta, but provided only vague of hints about modest changes President Trump would seek to an agreement that he had previously called “the worst trade deal ever.” I chose this article because there has been lots of news about President Trump lately, and I think that is is important the people are educated about what decisions their president is making. Which in most cases has a huge impact on the rest of their lives. This article relates to our class because half of our class we spent talking about the election, and how decisions the President makes always has an impact on the world around us.
This website is credible because The New York Times is a very well known magazine that has been proven to give out very credible information.

Davis, Julie.

1.The main point of this article was to explain why humans lie and how lying fits into everyday life. Also, it talks about the difference in bending the truth and what percentage of age groups bend the truth the most. Lastly, the article talked about specific stories form when people got away with lying for a long time.
2. I chose this because recently there has been lots of lying in politics and in regular life, so I was wanted to learn more about it.
3.This connects to discussions in class because we have talked about how Presidents have lied in history or went against the law. This is just like today and how today’s leader of the country sometimes lie. Also, it shows how lying has progressed from the past to now. It has become part of our daily ritual. From this article we lie about once or twice a day.
4.This is a credible source because it has been funding research for 130 years, is not a government related source, and the researchers are professional scientists.

Bhattacharjee, Yudhijit. “Why We Lie: The Science Behind Our Deceptive Ways” National Geographic, Photographed by Dan Winters, June 2017 www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2017/06/lying-hoax-false-fibs-science/ Accessed May 18, 2017

1. Trump exclaims that he is the target of a “witch hunt” when people had to investigate the ties between him and Russia. He complains that while he is being checked, Obama and Clinton have committed illegal acts before, but they have not been investigated. Trump also says that he has no secret relationship with Russia. He believes that he is the politician who who has been treated the worst and most unfairly in all of history.
2. I chose this article because news about Trump is everywhere, and it is most likely the main focus on a lot of people’s minds. I wanted to know what was currently happening around Trump.
3. The article relates to the Salem Witch Trials, which we learned early in the year. Trump feels like he is in a "witch hunt," and in the Salem Witch Trials, people were tried in a hearing if they were accused of witchcraft. Trump was accused of having secret ties with Russia.
4.

1. The main point of the article about how many people think that animals have a better sense of smell than humans. This is because dogs for example have an extrasensory organ and 50x more receptors. But, our sense of smell is actually better than we think.
2. I chose this article because the pictures at the top intrigued me. Also I was just interested in the article.
3. I don't think this really relates to what we are learning. I think maybe just how we underestimate people and their abilities.
4. This is a credible source because the New York Times is very well known.
5.

1. The main point of this article is that some people think that we are in "impeachment territory" and others think that we are a long way from there. David Gergen, the presidential counselor thinks that Trump could get impeached with the rocky week he has had.
2. I enjoy being informed about politics and what is going on with who is leading our country. Along side it talks about a possibility that we could be having a new president and that is quite important.
4. It is well know news group.
Jimmy Fallon says people "Have a right to be mad" at his friendly hair tousling of trump

1. The main point of this article is to explain the comments made about Jimmy Fallons moment with Trump during the presidential campaign. This occurred on Jimmy Fallons show while Donald Trump was a guest. Fallon jokingly "tousled" Trumps hair during the interview. This cause a lot of controversy. Lots of Trumps followers felt it was disrespectful. Not only were Trumps followers upset, but his haters were as well. They felt that the interaction was too friendly and "it humanizes a monster".
2. I chose this article because it happened a year ago but we are still talking about it today. I also think its interesting that a moment like this is still the topic of many conversations.
3. In class we discussed that the image of president has changed so much overtime. For example the first presidents had a very casual relationship with the country but now having a casual moment is a huge deal.
4. I found this article on Washington Post. I think its a credible source because many people use it and it has a good reputation as far as presenting good reliable news.
5. Andrews, Travis M.

The main point of the article is how in baltimore streams, amphetamines and methamphetamines were found. The big concern is on the food web, Birds eat the bugs, as do frogs and fish. As emergent contaminants such as pharmaceuticals and endocrine disruptors become more common in ground and drinking water, they could affect humans. Just as she crossed the border, she was so pregnant that she collapsed and gave birth in front of police and soldiers.
"Babies From Skin Cells? Prospect Is Unsettling to Some Experts"

1. Scientists believe that in around a decade or two, babies may be able to be grown from skin cells. This opens up many possibilities. Two men could have a baby that is biologically related to both of them, or a woman with fertility issues could have an easier way to have a child. However, many people are upset by the prospect and have concerns about the new technology being abused. Some believe that this discovery could start embryo farming and/or decrease the value of human life. Also, many people also have moral issues with it, as with other kinds of non-traditional reproduction.
2. I chose this article because science interests me and also the ethical implications of new discoveries of science. Also, I sometimes forget that new innovations in science have to do with much more than just a successful experiment.
3. This relates to medical treatment in the Civil War. In the Civil War, people had ideas about how the human body worked and even if the procedures didn’t work, or made matters worse, they were accepted. Now, new innovations are still not widely accepted. However, I am not sure if beliefs were involved so heavily in new medical innovations in the Civil War.
4. This is a credible source because it has an author, date, and cites the quotes in the article.

Citation: Lewin, Tamar. “Babies From Skin Cells?
"How Colorado Is Turning Food Waste Into Electricity"

I read an article on npr.org about how Colorado is turning their most populous trash areas into a business's opportunity. A technology known as anaerobic digestion is a combination of spoiled milk, old pet food, grease, and bacteria. This combination is used to generate gas. As Virginia Till, a recycling expert with the Environmental Protection Agency, explains the process, “Anaerobic digesters are no silver bullet. It’s important to [pay attention] to the opportunities [that] focus on reducing waste in the first place. In 2015, the federal government released a food waste reduction goal by calling on all Americans to produce half as much waste by 2030.

I chose this because I am interested in helping the world become a better place. For my lil’ sis experiment we are searching for how to reduce plastic waste and this can connect to my interest because it is helping reduce food waste. I love learning about ways humans can make the Earth cleaner and brighter.

In my opinion this article does not connect to history because it is more based on the scientific aspects.

This article is a credible source because NPR has a national public radio station that allows people to tune in. Therefore, they hire fact checker to ensure they are giving out correct information to the public.

Anaerobic digestion - a series of biological processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen.

Runyon, Luke. “How Colorado Is Turning Food Waste Into Electricity” npr, 6 April 2016 http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2016/04/05/472673127/how-colorado-is-turning-food-waste-into-electricity Accessed May 18 2017.

Israel and Trump Relations

Although majority of Israel is for Trump, they do have some second guesses about him being a big advocate for Israel. Israelis and Jews are saying that he is so unpredictable and he can flip sides in seconds which is a scary thought for any Israel supporters. Also his “positions” page on his website doesn’t mention the Middle East even after he said he would stand by Israel and that’s one of his priorities. On the other hand, Israelis and Jews are very pleased that Trump’s daughter is an orthodox Jew who has outwardly expressed she will be on the journey with her dad (Trump) supporting Israel. The point of this article is to make Israel supporters aware of how Trump stands with the topic of Israel’s safety. This article allowed people to be educated about Trump and their new president. I chose this article to know personally where my president stands with my people and religion’s country. I also chose this as my article because Trump has often made comments that he will defend Israel which brings ease to me, my family, and my fellow Israelis and Jews so this article makes me happy. This source can be argued that it is an unreliable source because it does not have an author, or published date.

Why Israel Loves Donald Trump. Politico Magazine, www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/03/

     donald-trump-israel-2016-netanyahu-213748.
Brooklyn Artist's "Message in a Bottle" To Raise Environmental Awareness Washes Ashore in France I read an article on dogonews.com about how a man named George Boorujy threw bottles containing messages into the ocean to help spread environmental awareness. One day a woman named Brigitte Barthélémy was walking along the seashore in France when she noticed a bottle and in it she found a hand-drawn cormorant and a message promoting environmental awareness. What had people shocked was that this message was carried all the way from Brooklyn, New York to France. Researchers found that about 90% of seabirds have plastic in their stomachs and that percentage could increase to 99% by 2050 if big changes aren’t made. In the end this message has had a very positive impact on Brigitte to be more respectful of the environment and to go and find more ways she and her family can help the environment. Hopefully, this will impact others too. I choose this article because I am concerned about the waste being put out into our environment and I am interested in science. This is a credible source because the writer has the opinion of Brigitte Barthélémy meaning that she was interviewed and the information was taken directly from her.Feitlinger, Sarah Benton. “Brooklyn Artist's "Message in a Bottle" To Raise Environmental Awareness Washes Ashore in France” dogonews, March 21 2016, www.dogonews.com/2016/3/21/brooklyn-artists-message-in-a-bottle-to-raise-environmental-awareness-washes-ashore-in-france Accessed May 18
