King - The top leader in the land was the king. The king could not control all of the land by himself, so he divided it up. In return, loyalty and soldiers were pledged to the king.

Queen- in the Middle Ages, women and the Queen had a very specific role in the monarchy as well as in society in general. They were sometimes rulers in their own right, but often one of their most important duties was to act as a regent when their king was unable to rule, whether the king was sick or too young to make intelligent decisions. They had a duty to produce male heirs.

Lord- The lords ran the local manors. They also were the knights and could be called into battle at any moment.
Role of the Roman Catholic Church in Medieval Europe

During the Middle Ages, the Roman Catholic Church was organized into a hierarchy with the Pope at the top. The Pope was theoretically superior to even monarchs, and kings and queens could be excommunicated if they contravened the wishes of the Pope. An excommunicated person could not receive the sacraments and was therefore thought to be damned to hell. The church basically saw itself as the spiritual community of Christian believers, in exile from God's kingdom, waiting in a hostile world for the day of deliverance. There was a urge for the direct experience with God. There was a growing sense of religion and a need to be with Christ and his followers. During the Middle Ages, the Church was a major part of everyday life. The Church served to give people spiritual guidance and it served as their government as well.
