Human Nature Themes in The Hunger Games

The main type of human nature that we see in the Novel "The Hunger Games" is that the importance of family, and the sacrifices for them are honored and explored. And the bonds are what allows you to survive adversity. This is one of the biggest types of human nature that we see in the world. We want ourselves and our families to survive. It is a feature that we are born with. This is shown in "The Hunger Games" when we see Katniss volunteer as a tribute for her sister Prim Rose. Originally, all characters don't really mind the Hunger Games, of course they don't want to be chosen, but they don't really think of it as that bad. Katniss wants her sister to survive, and she doesn't want her to have to go through anything like The Hunger Games, so she volunteers to take her place, and eventually ends up stopping the Hunger Games from taking place any longer.

Both of these Stories have many examples of human nature in them. The Themes in them are similar as well. They both have to do with protection. The only difference is that one has protection over themselves, and one has protection over others and their families. We see this in The Hunger Games when Katniss' human nature is shown when she volunteers as a tribute for her little sister Prim Rose. She refuses to let this yearly event take away her sister so she takes her place in the battle.

Once again, both stories show a form of human nature. In these examples, the main human nature shown is to protect. What changes the theme ,though, is what or who you are trying to protect. In The Lottery, they are trying to protect themselves. This example is shown through Tessie when she says, "It's not fair!" When she says this, she is talking about herself. She is not in any way talking about it be unfair for others. If it were someone else being chosen, she wouldn't have cared or said that it was "unfair" . She says this and it shows that she does not care about whether or not one of her children is killed, or any other people in town. She only cares about her own safety. In our own nature, we obviously want ourselves to thrive in life, and we will do a lot to make sure we survive. Most people don't want to be sacrifices but in this case it's a part of life.

Human Nature Themes In The Lottery

The human nature theme that is shown in "The Lottery" Is that Death is part of the Life cycle, and sacrifice is rewarded. Everyone is the story have these mindsets, but as soon as they are chosen in The Lottery, they immediately state that it wasn't fair. They key words in that sentence are that it wasn't fair. None of the characters ever once say that it's not right. So they all have this mindset that everyone's going to die, and it's for a sacrifice in order for everyone to stay alive. This is another common thing in human nature. We all want to stay alive, yet most people still understand that sacrifice is just a part of life. An example of this in real life is when your parents have to go to work in order to make sure that you're fed and are able to go to school and other things that you have in your household. This isn't necessarily a life sacrifice, but it still is sacrifice of a parent's free time, in order for you to have the things you like and need.
