Let's start with a fun or not so fun fact about IEPs in Ireland:

Did you know that in many countries IEPs are common standard? In Ireland the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act (EPSEN) in 2004 pointed out the importance of IEPs for approriate and inclusive education. The preparation, implementation and review of IEPs were a legal requirement. However, due to economic decline, in 2008 this section was deferred. Ireland's spending on education is one of the lowest in Europe. Therefore, teachers in Ireland are not legally required to prepare IEPs. The low fundings have a direct impact on student support and their development support (Banks et al., 2015), so the real victims are our hard-working students!
