The phenomenon of the witch hunt is a searcg for people who have been labaled witches or a search for evidence or witchcraft.
The witch hunt began at the 15 century up to the 18 century.
The prosecution of the Salem's witches was the most famous prosecution in the story of Nort Amecrica.
In Salem, the hunt began in 1692 up to 1693. More than 200 people were accused and 30 people were found guilty, 19 of them were executed by hanging, 14 woman and 5 men.
This phenomenon was really used in the litterature like for exemple the books:
- the witches
-many are the crimes
-nightmare in red
-whores of the devil
-Salem possessed
And more....
We have 2 diferent types of witches, the goods and the bads.
The goods witches were celles to heal some diseases, helping a mother give birth or find lost items.
Now for the bads, they was accused of the origin of all kinds of evil like diseases, death, drought, floods and even eartquake.
The witch hunt is still in the actuality today, is still practiced in Sub Saharan Africa, India and Papua New Guinea .

Hello everybody !
Today, I'm going to talk about the witch Hunt in the USA.
You have to know that the american witch Hunt is mainly connected with the apparition of the senator Joseph Mac Carthy in 1950. Therefore, we can also call it the MacCarthyism.
So it stars when he cames in the foreground of the senate and end when he get a censorship vote in 1954.
So first of all, you have to know that the MacCarthyism is a purely political witch Hunt.
It came from the beginning of the Cold War.
At this time, there is great anti-communist paranoia in all of the american minds.
Singe 1938, HUAC, the enquiry commission try to track un-american activities like nazism and communism.
It even spread in the cinema sector when in Hollywood, 19 celebrities are summoned by the HUAC for belonging to the communism party.
In 1947, the MPAA, the motion picture association of america announce that they wont employ communist artists : its the birth of the Black list. This list regroups artists that couldn't be employed by the MPAA including famous actors like Charlie Chaplin.
The 9th february of 1950, there is a man, MacCarthey that critizices the Truman Government and makes a speech where he denounces the presence of 205 communists in the Department of State (although the list is brought back at 57 later). The Tydings Commision analyses the accusation of MacCarthy and declare that it's a "fraud and an hoak".
For them, it's impossible to prove this accusations.
But he continues. The 14 june of 1951, he attaché the general George Marshall, accusing him to let the societic win the war.
But the real MacCarthyism starts in 1952 when MacCartey is designated as the president of the senate Permanent Subcomitee on Investigation. Despite the fact that it is a very minor structure, MacCarthy create a real witch Hunt.
Unlike HUAC, subcomitee aims government institutions.
So they are a lot of tensions in the White House.
On top of that, not only anti-communism practises are sentenced, also homosexual practices ; because they are described as a threat for the country and a very un-american practice.
There is a great climate of paranoia : everybody can accuse everybody bus also freedom of expression losses : opponents are incarcerated, lot of suicides.
Finally and fortunately, more and more people rise up against the MacCarthyism, especially when he enters into conflict with the army, being disrespectful with the general Ralph. Zwicker.
The medias and the public opinion instantly change against MacCartey.
The 30 July of 1954, a censorship vote is adopted against MacCartey.
That's the end of the american witch Hunt.
In my opinion, Witch Hunt is absolutely horrible, we must have to talk about it in class.
