The shade of difference that separates a greaser from a hood wasn't present in Dally. He was as wild as the boys in the downtown outfits, like Tim Shepard's gang." Pony- The Reluctant Hero. He is the reluctant hero because he was an ordinary boy, but he had to step up and help Johnny.

Darry-  The Hotshot. He is the hotshot because he prefers to work alone, and doesn't friend people very well.

Dally- The Foil. He is the foil because, he helped Johnny realize his true self, and helped in the developing of Johnny's character.

Two Bit- The Trickster. He is the trickster, because he is always cracking jokes, and always wants to get his two bits in.

Cherry- The Foil. She is the foil because she helped Soda develop as a character.

Dally had taken the car and I started the long walk home in a stupor. Johnny was dead. But he wasn't.
