Puritanism was a big part of the Salem witch trials. The puritans believed in total depravity, this means they thought people were born a sinner. They also believed that satan/ the devil was alive and active. They believed that the devil was trying to stop them from doing stuff, everything that opposed them was the devil. The puritans were also very strict but a flaw was that they were always arguing, and suing each other. The puritans believed there was a devils presence in there community, the social structure and the nature of the society also contributed to that feeling.

Arthur Miller wrote the crucible because of this man. McCarthyanism was time when Senator McCarthy led a campaign against alleged communist. This was similar to the Salem witch trials due to the fact that they were being accused. Almost the same things happened with this and the witch trials. People were being ghosted because nobody wanted to be seen with a communist, in the witch trials if you were accused nobody wanted to be seen with a witch. This made Arthur Miller write the play/story the crucible.

In the past there were many slaves. Those slaves had there own religions and thing they did. Tituba was a lady who did witch craft. She was in Salem. She some of the girls from the village how to do it. This is also what started the controversy in Salem.

These girls were the ones that came up with everything. They would get random people and say that they are witches. But they were the ones getting taught witch craft. The mayors daughter was someone who was accused of witch craft to. Mostly all of the girls there were doing witch craft and blaming it on an outkas. They would blame it on either a homeless person or the people that don't go to church. They kept instigating these things and it got really bad.

This is Arthur Miller. He is the one who created this book. Arthur was accused of being a communist in the 1940-1950 . This was the time of McCarthyanism. Arthur was called to the court and had to give off names and snitch on people. He didn't give names so he was fired from his job and he couldnt really do anything else. He then thought about the Salem witch trials and how it related to the time and the stuff that happened to him. So he wrote the Crucible.
