         <title>I prefer when the people around me have their laptops closed and phones away, especially if we&#39;re having a discussion that doesn&#39;t involve taking notes or reading material from a screen.  It&#39;s hard to feel like people are interested in what you have to say when they are looking at screens.  I don&#39;t want to have to tell adults to put the screens away, but it just makes for such a nicer atmosphere if people are showing they are paying attention to one another.</title>

As a new teacher I have often encountered a degree of derision or annoyance from more experienced educators.          <description><![CDATA[<p>I need a certain level of respect for strong opinion. I sometimes feel in the social studies/social science space that there is a valorization of neutrality. I think this does a disservice to us as educators and to our students. We are fully realized people who have opinions on the material we are engaging with, making space for this reality will make me far more comfortable.</p>]]></description>
