Some of these groups include The greasers, (Ponyboys gang) and the socs. The Greasers are supposed to be the ones who are dumb, use to much grease in their hair, and are supposed to be hoodlums. The socs are the ones who are snotty, rich, and make bad decisions. Hinton, the theme of stereotyping occurs. Throughout the story, people get judged by the way they look, which they shouldn't. The Greasers(who are Ponyboy's buddies and gang) and the Socs(who are higher class and wear nicer things such as sweaters and drive mustangs) get judged. Socs are known for driving Mustangs(or other nice cars), getting drunk, nice clothing, jumping Greasers and being wealthy. Meanwhile, Greasers are known for their hair grease or oil, leather jackets, smoking, being unintelligent and not having a lot of money. Clearly, this is not true about every Greaser and Every Soc. Pony is judging both sides," Socs, who jump Greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks...Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and rive old souped-up cars"(Hinton 3). In the novel, each sides are judging each other just by people who hurt them or by their looks. This is not okay to be judged. Hinton, the readers learn that violence is never the answer, because something bad you didn't know would happen, might happen. Ponyboy lives the gang called "The Greasers". They always get jumped by the socs. When Pony and Johnny see the blue mustang, they know violence is coming. A few socs came the the park where Johnny and Pony were, looking to start something, "the next thing I knew I was lying on the pavement beside the fountain...then I saw Johnny,... 'I killed him"'(Hinton 56). Johnny killed the soc, Bob. If Bob and his friends came over to the Greasers park, they should have known not to start anything because things can turn very quickly. Johnny was trying to protect his own friend from dying, so he stabed Bob, and all of them ran off. Hinton, he uses  a theme of violence. In the story there is a lot of violence going on. Violence isn't the answer. Ponyboy lives with his brothers and he usually spends time with the gang. But then there was a blue mustang and the greasers knew it was trouble on its way.The socs were the West-side rich kids but the greasers were poor . The Socs and Greasers don't get along really well, then "They ran when I stabbed him..." ( Hinton 57). Johnny was protecting his friend from David (a soc)  that was drowning him. He should have not killed Bob because violence isn't the answer it causes more problems with more different people.

Hinton a theme is you should never judge people before you get to know them, which is stereotyping.  In this novel there are the Greasers and the Socs.  They get into fights often, but they don’t know each other that well.  Johnny was getting attacked by a Soc named Bob, but the Socs claim that he was a good person.  Johnny and Pony tried to escape, “but the Soc caught my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain” (Hinter 55-56).  According to the Socs, Bob was a good guy, but he was drunk at that time.  Since, this has happened to Johnny before the first thing he thinks to do is kill him.  Johnny doesn’t know who Bob is and the other way around.  All in all, the Greasers and Socs don’t know each other that well, and you should never judge people before you get to know them.  ]]> 2016-12-01 15:48:39 UTC https://padlet.com/egianakis/881p9n36ad65/wish/141146991 https://padlet.com/egianakis/881p9n36ad65/wish/141147001 In the novel The Outsiders readers learn that  choices have an impact on what you do. Choice can be a decision that changes your life. In the book when a soc is talking to his girlfriend "'And even if you were mad at us, that's no reason to go walking the streets with these bums'"(Hinton 45). Two soc girls ditched their boyfriend and started hanging out some greaser boys at the movies. The greaser were trying to walk the girls home when their boyfriends showed up. The girls hanging out with the greasers was a risk they were willing to take but it backfired and a fight almost started. Choice makes a big difference

Hinton, the theme is that stereotyping is wrong and one should not do it. At the end of the novel, when Pony realizes his future, he says, "Someone should tell their side of the story, and maybe people would understand then and wouldn't be so quick to judge a boy by the amount of hair oil he wore" (Hinton 179). This is extremely important to Pony because he knows what it feels like to be immediately categorized as a "thug." When people don't even know someone, and they assume things it can make one feel horrible. Maybe some Greasers were bad people, but definitely not all of them, Johnny proved that. Overall, in the novel, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, the true theme is that one should not just assume things or stereotype other people they don't know.

Stereotyping is the theme in the novel and towards the end of the novel, the reader can understand that stereotyping is wrong. Greasers are treated differently in the novel and aren't expected to be good people as the author writes, "'...are you proffesional heroes?'...'No, we're greasers'"(Hinton 95). As Ponyboy was talking to the man in the ambulance after he was burned at the church, the man asked if Pony and Johnny were proffesional heroes for saving the childen in the burning church. As Ponyboy responds that they are hoodlum greasers, he was shocked, as most people would be, expecting greasers to be dirty, mean, and violent. In conclusion, the reader learns that stereoyping is the main theme of The Outsiders, by SE Hinton, and that it is wrong to judge people before anyone meets them.

Hinton there is a major theme  which teaches the reader how violence is never the answer . In chapter four, “Five Socs were coming straight at us, and from the way they were staggered I figured they were reeling pickled...drunk...We backed against the fountain…  Socs surrounded us” (Hinton 54). The end result of this conflict was Bob the soc's death. This is unfortunate for Ponyboy and Johnny because they were defending them selves. Eventually they hid in a old abandoned church. They were forced to cut their hair and diy it because their discription was written in the paper.

Hinton, one of the themes is courage and I learned that courage can make you better, but also hurt you. In the book Ponyboy says “Did you know that you got your name in the paper for being a hero?...I could see that only a few words were tiring him out.” (Hinton 104). During the book, Johnny and Ponyboy ran away from the cops to an old church. Later, they left the church then came back to see the Church in flames. 5 Kids were inside so Johnny and Ponyboy went in and saved those kids. But when johnny was leaving, a piece of timber wood fell on his back. Overall, this action was courageous but ended up hurting him.

Hinton, readers learn that courage exists inside of everyone.  In The Outsiders, Ponyboy is a greaser, along with the rest of his gang.  Greasers are faced with a lot of bad breaks, that take courage to get out of.  After mudering Bob, Johnny and Pony run away.  When they'e about to leave the church, there's a fire, with many kids trapped inside.  Johnny and Pony rush in to save them.  After, Jerry, a teacher for the school of kids that was there says,  "'I swear, you three are the bravest kids I've seen in a long time'" (Hinton 95).  Johnny, a character who's known for being anything but courageous, ran into the building to save the kids, running in to what seemed to be a death trap.  This would take a lot of courage for anyone to do, nonetheless the kid who's scared of his own shadow.  All in all, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a great example of showing that everyone has courage existing inside of them.

Later in the novel Pony boy must fight in a rumble while sick and injured. After the rumble Darry tells Pony boy ""You got a concussion"' (Hinton 157). Ponyboy realize that it was his fault it was on fire. ]]> 2016-12-01 16:02:07 UTC https://padlet.com/egianakis/881p9n36ad65/wish/141153032 https://padlet.com/egianakis/881p9n36ad65/wish/141154401 In the novel The Outsiders a theme people learn after reading is that the choices you make are depended upon how you want your life to be.  Within the story Johnny makes a decision to have killed a Soc.  His life took a turn, scared little Johnny had just killed a Soc because,”...They were drowning [Ponyboy].  [The Socs] might have killed [Ponyboy].  And they had a blade… they were gonna beat [Johnny] up…”(Hinton 57).  From this event of killing the Soc Bob, Johnny was frightened and no longer thought to be as the tiny weak pet of the gang.  He had just saved Ponyboy and killed a Soc, he wasn’t the scared little boy anymore.  He changed his life because of this decision, he now is mentally and physically stronger.  If he hadn’t made this decision and let Pony drown he could be hated as the weakling who couldn’t save a friend and doesn’t deserve to be a Greaser.  Darry made a dangerous decision, he was terrified when Ponyboy came home but used anger to get it out.  He gained so much energy that,”[he] wheeled around and slapped [Ponyboy] so hard that it knocked [him] against the door”(Hinton 50).  Darry had the decision to slap Ponyboy which led to him running away.  He made this decision which changed him, Ponyboy and Soda now thought Darry was rude and crazy and not a good brother.  After time passed, Darry realized this which then he tried to change his decision, but he changed his life by remembering this moment when he did slap Ponyboy.  All in all, decisions are depended upon to change your life and make it the way you want it to be, don’t make it regretful.
