The focus of this lesson is to encourage students to develop their own critical intelligence with regard to culturally inherited stereotypes. In this lesson students take a look at their own assumptions about what it means to be a girl, and what it means to be a boy. The brainstorming and discussion sessions are meant to encourage them to ask gender-specific questions as a step in the self-reflective process. They will engage in discussions with diverse partners while asking and responding to specific questions. Students will make comments that contribute to the discussion at hand and explain their own ideas.

Jamboard lesson where questions would be asked on each page. Topics would include: What gender stereotypes do people have for boys and girls?

How can we help to break stereotypes?

The last two pages of Jamboard will have two art pieces.

What do you think of when you see this piece of art?

These questions would be answered with a sticky note response by students, they can also add images to represent their thoughts and feelings.

Once all questions have been answered students can share what they have written and we can all have a discussion on the topic.

Students would work on a Google forms quiz/survey. The form would ask them different questions for example, "who mows the lawn, who cooks dinner, who does the laundry, who fixes things that are broken..." Students would have to choose mom, dad, or either. When all students finish the survey I would ask them what are the right answers? All of the students would discuss which was right or wrong answer. This is where the misconception check would come in hand. Doing this exercise we would discover students' misconceptions. We can see if students can identify what is the correct answer when given a false fact. It encourages students to think deeply and wager all the possibilities, because in reality there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to this "quiz"

For this lesson, I would like to incorporate technology as much as possible in a lesson about gender roles and gender stereotypes. I would like to show students myths about this topic and debunk some of the prior knowledge they may have about gender roles/stereotypes. I would like to include Youtube videos, a Jamboard lesson, Google Forms, Kahoot, and even a NearPod as part of my lesson plan. Using all of these would allow the student to get a real sense of the topic at hand and understand it completely and thoroughly.

Some obstacles I may encounter when teaching this lesson are that some students may not understand the term stereotypes because it's a bit more abstract of a term. If a student does not understand, I would show them examples and work with them closely to make sure they grasp the concept. With further instruction, I believe that most, if not all, of the students will understand the lesson the first time. I may need differentiation with the computer aspect where some students may not feel comfortable typing, so they can use the voice option in a quiet space of the classroom. Some students may need assistance when working on the Jamboard. I don't think I will need alternate ways to teach the lesson, but I can always have a supplemental part of the lesson to add on if necessary for better understanding.
